( just noticed this article , was surrpised there was no nomination meeting there , had also though at least one of the failed mayoral candidates might give it a run . not sure if we ever see a by-election there or not )

Rempel replaces Prentice as Tory hopeful in Calgary Centre-North

By Jason Fekete, Calgary Herald December 17, 2010

Michelle Rempel has been acclaimed as the federal Conservative party candidate in Jim Prentice's old riding of Calgary Centre-North.

Rempel, president of the neighbouring Calgary-Nose Hill Tory riding association, was named the Conservative candidate Friday afternoon and will now represent the federal Tories in a byelection that could come by January.

Currently the director of the institutional programs division at the University of Calgary, Rempel has been a longtime Tory volunteer and has served as the co-chair of the federal party's national policy committee.

The Calgary Centre-North seat opened when Prentice quit as cabinet minister and member of Parliament in November to take an executive-level post with CIBC. A byelection must be called within 180 days of the seat becoming vacant in mid-November.

However, the byelection would be moot if, as many political observers believe, Canadians are thrown into a federal election campaign in the spring.

The Calgary Centre-North riding runs from Memorial Drive in the south to Beddington Trail in the north, and is largely sandwiched between Deerfoot Trail on its east end, and Crowchild Trail in its southwest and 14th Street in its northwest corner.
