Basically this guy (dutch politician) put out a short film containing excerpts from the Quran and speeches from islamic extremists. Now he is getting a bunch of flak from muslim people and even some legal issues i'm a little hazy on. There is a lot more to the story and it's pretty interesting. What do you guys think?

A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put a right-wing politician on trial for making anti-Islamic statements.Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made a controversial film last year equating Islam with violence and has likened the Koran to Adolf Hitler. In a democratic system, hate speech is considered so serious that it is in the general interest to... draw a clear line, the court in Amsterdam said.I am shaken.I had absolutely not expected it, he told the Dutch news agency,ANP.

“It is irrelevant whether Wilder’s witnesses might prove Wilders’ observations to be correct”, the ‘Openbaar Ministerie’ stated, “what’s relevant is that his observations are illegal”.

This is a statement made by the Openbaar Ministerie’. Orwell would be proud, NO?

Truth is NOT a defence? This is all part of a movement to silence critical speech of Islam there has been a anti-blaspheme law introduced in the UN. Ireland has folowed suit to adopt such a law. IF One can not speak critically of any religion, then one is not free, it is amazing what can be perceived critique.

I also can see that could in fact be a political ploy to stop his party from continuing to gain traction with the nation. Once a fringe party it has been steadily gaining popularity and scoring higher in the polls and winning seats.

This is a very important case, I hope he wins, even if one believes that this man is a bigot, one should not go to jail for thought and expressing it.
