I'm having a heck of a time trying to find some statistics to see if they line up with a theory. I'm looking for Canadian labour force participation rates by gender, from the 1900s (or as close as I can get) onward, as well as the median age of marriage, and birth rates, for the same time periods. I've been looking for each seperately, as I doubt they'd all be found in the same source.
Basically, I'd expect high correlation between the median age of marriage and level of female labour force participation, both inversely correlated with the birth rate. If you were to further compare this with wage data, I would expect a positive correlation between median age of marriage and female wages, and a negative correlation between increased birthrates and female marriages.
Who knows, maybe someone's already looked at this in Canada?
