What would you do if you were attacked on the street? Give the attacker what they wanted and hope they'll leave you alone? Or do you fight back and make them think twice?

What if someone breaks into your home while you and your family are inside? Surrender your expensive property that you worked hard for and hope they don't harm your family? Or would fight back and let them know what they're doing is wrong?

I would like to promote a non-profit organization called the "Canadian Association for Self Defence". It is pushing for pro-self-defence legislation which include repealing laws against carrying weapons for self-defence, legalization of pepperspray for use on violent attackers, and just overall allowing Canadians to exercise their right to defend themselves and handing out real punishments to violent criminals and repeat-offenders.

Many politicians have suggested ineffective and non-functional solutions to crime. Examples of this would be handgun bans, closing down shooting ranges (Mayor Miller of Toronto), banning protective gear such as Body Armor in BC, and "rehabilitating" criminals that end up re-offending. Every political party except the Conservatives and Libertarians have suggested a national handgun ban.

Instead of pouring money into more registries and red tape that only affect the law-abiding, why not get them to invest in the people? Allow responsible people to have the proper tools and training to give them the ability to stop a crime in progress or even prevent one altogether. If there's a chance a potential victim could be armed, that will make criminals think twice. That's a system that's been proven to work.

For the sake of this thread, let me ask this question: Would you want the option of defending yourself with a realistic chance of success?

Ummmm.... most of the time, people who join forums for the apparent purpose of leading people away to OTHER websites are referred to as SPAMMERS.

Is there any reason I shouldn't believe such is the case for your thread?

ps: you'l find there's a mixed bag of folks here. Some are strong supporters of the right to own firearms. Some don't like guns. Most fall somewhere in between.

pps: As a libertarian, I believe in property rights and if you want to own a firearm, that's your business.
