Not sure if there are any nova scotians here, but here me out. From the new NDP majority, it is a perfect environment for conservatives to gather anew and create a new image, message, and revert back to common sense conservatism.

You know what I would love to do? Create a brand new Nova Scotian provincial party similar to the Wildrose Alliance of Alberta and the old Reform Party of Canada.

True small-"c" populist grassroots conservatism. Inspirations include Ron Paul, Patrick J. Buchanan, Edmund Burke, Michael Oakeshott, Tim Hudak, Preston Manning, Chuck Baldwin, Mark Sanford, to name a few figures of importance.

Is this a shot in the dark or should I pursue this? If I should pursue it, I need more than just myself to get the ball rolling

Also given the current weakness that the PC party has, there is more opportunity to influence it's future than if the party was strong. They will be actively looking for a new direction. Unlike a new party they have a "brand" and a core base of support already. It's pretty apparent that a quarter of the electorate will vote for this party no matter what. They even voted fo them with Rodney MacDonald as the leader. A new party would need to work for years (if not decades) to get to that level of support.

The Problem is with the Atlantica party is they are trying to take on more than feasible right now. I mean I love their economy plan, I dislike their plan for election reform. 100% Public funded Elections? Sounds real conservative to me.....
I'd join them if they would drop their ideas of recall, STV, Public funded elections and Separate Premier Election, as well as legislative reform.

That is just far too much for one party to talk about starting up.

I mean they seem to have a good policy booklet, just too much is unpalatable for me right now for me to give them a red cent (I'd give them the full amount if I could).

Nova Scotia conservatives are going to have to look at themselves in the mirror, as with all the Atlantic “PC” Parties. They no longer represent conservative values, but have become too socialist minded. In order to combat socialism, you have to fight it with conservatism, and not socialist lite.

I am against anybody who calls themselves a centrist. Centrist is a code word for slower socialism.

One thing is for shore the Nova Scotia Tory party has to make some major changes in Policy and direction if they want to be re-elected in Nova Scotia.

The NDP ran on Jobs and economic development and promoting Nova Scotia industry including Steel and Ship building.

That is where the Tories should be backing these traditional industries of Nova Scotia and Canada. The NDP also where out spoken about spending our development dollars on Nova Scotians and Canadians first, then considering companies from outside Nova Scotia and Canada second only after we served our own first, like most other countries around the world do, but for some reason we Canadians do not !
