From halls of macadamia:

Another CTV Moonbat Moment

There was a piece that was supposed to be about the Conservatives extending the amnesty on rifles and shotguns... you know... the Liberals infamous and totally ineffectual 2 billion dollar "Farmer Bob Rifle Registry."

In the midst of a slow montage of various pictures of rifles and shotguns sitting in racks... CTV suddenly cuts to a jarring clip of a man firing an MP5 submachinegun... a restricted [*] weapon used primarily by SWAT Teams around the world.

*MP-5s are actually prohibited weapons in Canada, for a variety of reasons. The few private citizens in Canada entitled to own one are not impacted by the amnesty and must still register them. There really is no explanation for this editing decision other than willful ignorance in an attempt to decieve.

The same can be said of this image, used to highlight the online version of the story:

... the article there had a picture of an AK-47 assault rifle... the weapon of choice worldwide... not for farmers, hunters or target shooters... but third world terrorists.

And then, there is this:

...Wendy Cukier claiming that long guns were responsible for the majority of gun homicides in Canada...

This is false. The most recent statistics show that handguns are responsible for almost 60% of homicides by firearm in Canada, which should come as no suprise (Incidentally, handguns have been required to be registered since the 30s). Of course, the news story also failed to mention that:

* 2/3rds of all murders are committed without firearms, or even knives
* 83% of firearms used in homicides were not registered
* 80% of murderers in firearms homicides did not have PALs
* 100% of homicides are committed by murderers

Who do you think you are? Injecting facts into a news story at CTV. Shame.

Here is a cartoon that is close to the "progressive" truth on gun control.

I remember a little while ago in toronto some poor sap was walking past a strip club and these guys who had been kicked out killed him while trying to kill the bouncer.
The handgun they used was legal for target shooting and registered.
There is no way they could have gotten away with the crime.
I still cant understand what they were thinking.
