| Quote: | Angela Merkel, German chancellor, on Wednesday formally launched a salvage operation for the European Union’s constitution, saying it would be a “historic failure” if the stalemate over the charter was not broken.
...
Britain, France, the Netherlands and Poland are among those likely to demand that any new treaty be minimalist, focusing on institutional reform. But the 18 countries which have already ratified the constitution want to keep most of the original text.

| That attempt will likely fail. I'm with the Brits, attempting such sweeping uniformity among so many vastly different countries is absurd. |

The EU and NATO were founded on the same principle. Simply to make sure a third World War didn’t engulf Europe.
The Europeans by themselves are nothing, but get them all together…..
They have no choice by to try and find a compromise. |

| Europe is drowning in its own red tape. Ironically their heavy level of redistribution and regulation hurts the poor by dragging the economy down. |

Always been Europe’s problem.
Trying to be everything to everybody and create the great socialist model. Then again they have a hierarchy based on class still to this day. Class still means so much to some of these guys, they can’t get it through their heads, that the world moved past that 100 years ago. |
