My point by point response:
1) Name recognition isn't a good thing when your name is damned in half the country. A lot of people know Bob Rae also.
2) The same way that Micheal Ignatieff was suppose to energize young voters? He even offered to pay off the University students with that ridiculous credit and it still left most young folks lethargic and apathetic. If your victory strategy relies on 18 - 25 year old voters getting off their duffs you are going to be very disappointed on election day.
3) How many more ways is Warren going to comment that he is young? How many voters over 40 (The ones who actually vote) are going to want to elect what they see as a very young and very green leader? Again hitching hopes to 18 - 25...big mistake
4) Charisma? Maybe three leaders ago but I think Canada's problem with the Liberals are the zipping one-liners and a total and utter lack of innovative policy, where Warren see's Mulcair and Harper looking like angry old men, I see a child standing amongst men looking like that first Thanksgiving at the adult table.
5) Comparing him to his father then Chretien is suppose to be a positive? Chretien's legacy has as much to do with Preston Manning then it does himself. The Liberals under Chretien never won a majority against a unified Conservative Party, for that matter the Liberals have been unable to form a majority against a united right since 1980 and never without the majority of seats in Quebec.
Chretien was the default choice, that political reality does not exist for young Justin.
6) Regional Appeal? Sure, in Quebec. If the Liberals simply want to grow their seat total Justin is a short term fix while they address a long term problem. Mulcair and Justin battle for 78 seats in a region that Harper does not need for a majority government while Harper dominates West of Quebec.
Kinsella then goes on to yammer on about a political reality that no longer exists;
The Elder Trudeau was able to alienate the West because in 1980 the West was 77 seats and Quebec which he dominated was 75 and in a Commons with 282 seats you could get away with that, in 2015 the West will have 104 and Quebec 78.
You could piss of the West when the West was largely politically moot, now we are in an era where Quebec isnt needed for majorities (Much like the West was) and to form one now without a strong presence in the West is more and more difficult unless you can somehow dominate Ontario.
7) Multicultural? Ask a cabbie? Maybe I should get Warren some tea leaves?
While that is all fine and good, Brampton, Mississauga, Richmond Hill and other regions which are very Multicultural voted for the CPC, in large part to Jason Kenney.
The CPC has kept their promises and worked hard within those communities, if Kinsella thinks that they will magically be swept up in Trudeau-Mania II sight unseen I would argue perhaps he is disconnected with those regions of Canada.
8) Agreed; I think he can sell out 416 and 519 fundraisers like its going out of style, however the Liberals will be two years behind the CPC and NDP in raising funds.
9) I am not convinced the 40 and over crowed opt for sizzle over steak, Mulcair is a politician, Trudeau is a gimmick who needs 10 years of experience to even be considering this. If you truly want an alternative to Harper, its Mulcair not Trudeau.
