| Quote: | ... Leftism poisons everything it influences -- from journalism to the arts to universities to religion to government to male-female relations. And ultimately leftism poisons character. This does not mean that everyone with left-wing views becomes a bad person [or] that everyone with conservative views is a good person....
... But it does mean that leftism leads to pathologic altruism, ... Just as Mahatma Gandhi's hatred of violence led him to tell the Jews of Europe not to resist Hitler, so too has leftism led decent people who would weep at Israel's destruction to mouth the very same lies about Israel as those who seek its annihilation |
Kind of explains why leftists drive us crazy.
Give your definition. Mine is:
Patholigical Altruism - give till someone hurts. |

Good points.
"Pathological Altruism": "It's not ours to give - so lets give it all"
I rather like this definition from the Bhagavad Gita:
'And charity performed at an improper place and time and given to unworthy persons without respect and with contempt is charity in the mode of ignorance.' [BG 17.22]
One has to look at this text too - in order to appriciate the full impact of the actions of these kinds of individuals:
"And that action performed in ignorance and delusion without consideration of future bondage or consequences, which inflicts injury and is impractical, is said to be action in the mode of ignorance." [BG 18.25] |

| I am a Conservative and yet I realize the Conservatives may have one more electoral win in them if they are lucky. Harper has to start thinking which of the opposition parties would be better replacements. By trying (and possibly suceeding) in destroying the Liberal Party, he has left us with the unfortunate possibility of an NDP government. Is that more in the national interest than a centre party like the LPC? Just look at the leadership contenders in the NDP. Do you want one of them to be your next Prime Minister? |

The NDP are not going to form government - they only 'appear' to be moving ahead.
The misguided Liberals are not going to return to their former status any time soon...the Liberal sense of 'entitlement' where it comes to governance has been their undoing.
It took decades to sink Canada into a 'socialist pit' and it cannot be lifted out in 4-8 years. Long ago there was a 17 year stint of Liberal governance in Canada - I think that we shall see a very successful Canada in the long term - keeping the Conservatives in place for at least 4 elections.
There is no doubt that there are going to be many many many people/groups looking to displace the Conservatives and they will try every low tactic in terms of vilifying the Conservatives as agenda driven ideologues bent upon 'undoing Canada'.
We're going to see how a majority of Canadians shall positively respond to the long overdue dismantling of the socialist infrastructure that is factually undermining our long term freedoms and prosperity... |

It is rare for a federal Prime Minister to win 4 mandates in a row. If Harper does win the next election, it is unlikely he will win a fifth.
It is important to consider which party will come to power after the CPC; democratic socialist or centerist. |
