The European Union is already working on standardization, he said, with 14 companies including RIM and Apple having signed on to an agreement to look at using the same style of charger.
"So if they are able to do it in the EU, then you are able to do it here," Thibeault said.
Thibeault says he hasn't met with the manufacturers yet, but has spoken to the service providers, who told him that they're starting to see standardization beginning to take place. |

I welcome this if it comes to fruition.
I have so many chargers in a drawer it is bordering on stupidity. |

I just finished commenting that the Liberals and their small caucus are acting more like the official opposition and here we are with the NDP with any number of other pressing issues on the table are pressing for phone charger standardization because an MP dropped his phone, had to get a new one, and was pissed his charger didn't match.
Maybe its all my years living in reality outside of government;
But how is a market of 34 million people going to get apple to change their proprietary charger so that I can use an iPhone charger to charge a Blackberry? |

I read that and quite agree with you.
But...it is the NDP and they have always had the proclivity to shoot themselves in the foot.
They are filling the role of deck chair arrangers on the Titanic.

Pressure from the public.
I should have said I welcome if it comes, but no I do not think an act of Parliament needs to make it so.
Hell I would be happy if BBerry chargers could be used on any and all BB's , yet they cannot. As one who needs lots of c hargers in lots of places, life could be easier |

| I agree with their idea but it's absolutely stupid to tell private international companies that they must design their phones so that there is one universal charger for all phones. |

I am not entirely sure what the industry agreement is implying?
Are they talking about a unit which will have adapter plates for every connection or all brands going to one standard connection?
Because if its the latter that is going to be a pain in the ass for anyone who uses their iPhone in a dock |
