Quote:
The NDP is putting pressure on Claude Patry, who crossed the floor of the House of Commons to the Bloc Québécois last week, with a robocall to his constituents.

The MP for Jonquière-Alma quit the NDP last week, saying he supported a private member's bill from the Bloc to roll back the Clarity Act, the law that set rules for future referenda on separation from Canada. The bill is up for a vote in the House of Commons Wednesday night.

Patry said he was also opposed to the NDP's position on Newfoundland and Labrador's plan to develop the Muskrat Falls hydro-electric project, which has raised the ire of Quebec.

A copy of the robocall was obtained by Radio-Canada.

In it, the party's deputy national director, Chantal Vallerand, tells constituents in the Quebec riding that Patry was elected to represent them in 2011 as a member of Team Layton. It's a reference to the party's popular former leader Jack Layton, who died of cancer months after the election.

"Last week, he mocked you and all voters in Jonquière-Alma in quitting the NDP to join another political party," Vallerand says in French.

"We believe Mr. Patry should have the courage of his convictions by stepping down and running in a byelection. Since Mr. Patry didn't ask your opinion before making his decision, we decided to do so."

These are perfectly legal calls;
The NDP identifies themselves within the text of the call, and there is no wrongdoing whatsoever in this particular situation with Patry.

Its just interesting watching the CBC turn on the NDP, the headline is grossly misleading and the final paragraph of the story takes a gap at a largely "page 9" story at the time of the NDP targeting Lise St. Denis riding with similar calls after she cross the floor to the Liberals.

The NDP has a caucus full of folks who did not expect to be MP when they won the nomination and we have had near radio silence on the gaffes and situations arising from that largely raw NDP Quebec caucus, yet now it looks like the knives are out for the NDP and I can't imagine for a second the reasoning has nothing to do with the rise of love letters passed off as news regarding the Liberals soon to be leader.

It will have an effect, anyway.

The truth or falsity of charges, on complex issues, doesn't matter much because most people will read the headline, and never bother themselves with the technical details of the so-called offense. But it gives them the OK to feel some outrage.

You can expect the CBC to swoon over Trudeau fils more than the general public will, and they will stay swooned for longer as well. They will build and expand the 'narrative' -- that tissue of propaganda and lies that they attach to the candidate -- while their critical faculties (if they have any) are anesthetized.

We are seeing a phenomenon being constructed. When the media get their marching orders, expect the revelations about the NDP to be published. The media will do all it can to expand the number of Liberal seats in Parliament.

A little off topic but something I would be interested in your opinion in;

If an MP crosses the floor, should they seek a by-election?

the damage has allready been done , its not likely the ndp are going to win the seat back anyways . without a layton surge how are they ever going to win that many seats in quebec ? jonquiere alma was a riding that never really should of went ndp anyways

as for robocalls i don't know how effective they would be in one single riding , alot of people tend to get annoyed by those sort of calls
