Not long after the 9/11 horror I picked up a book on sale at Chapters, "The Devil's Horsemen: Mongol Invasion of Europe" by James Chambers. About 90,000 Mongols (women were warriors and commanders) conquered vast Muslim lands and over 500,000 cuthroat warriors and mercenaries. Chiingis Khan, or Genghis, was in semi-retirement since the Mongols conquered most of Cbina and parts of Asia. He sent emessaries to the Shah to reconnect the silk routes. But the heads were returned.
That did it. And after destroying the foolsih and arrogant Shah the Mongols went onward.
I had to verify this truth, which also engaged me with the history of Islam and the Islamists that wanted to rule the world.
Mainstream Muslims are ruled by demagogues and clerics. There may be moderates, who desire reform, but they fear being ostracized or worse.

Yes, Edmund Onward, I think you are correct. Muslims have been terrorized into submission, what "Islam" means, not to Allah but to ignorant mullahs. Do you remember when Salman Rushdie had the fatwa put out on him for his novel Satanic Verses? He had to go into hiding but eventually, he arranged a hearing before some High Academic Muslim Court and the judges there absolved him. So, within Islam there is no one leader, as is true in Christianity and Buddhism etc., and too many imams are uneducated except in rote recitation of the Qur'an. And those imams follow extremists because that is where the money is. Imams have traditionally been among the poorest of the poor. No wonder they enjoy a little power. The same is true of the dumbed down gangsters in western societies like Canada who have been given power by the left. They like to discriminate against intellectuals whenever they get the chance. Intellectuals in Canada are only allowed a voice if they speak left. For instance, academics must agree that evolution is a fact, not a theory that best fits the facts at this time. If an academic wants students to explore all sides of the mystery, all arguments, they won't teach in a Canadian university. But maybe that is changing or will in the near future. We can hope, and encourage creative solutions wherever we can. For the idea that Muslims have been terrorized, anyone who hasn't can benefit from reading everything Ayaan Hirsi Ali has written as the Dutch Member of Parliament who had to go into hiding too.
