I know that the Internet is an "echo chamber". People want to read views that support theirs. I personally have found the interchange of ideas to be stimulating. I like to read some views I agree with and some I disagree with. Dissent doesn't scare me.
Our country was not made great by fearful people. Thomas Jefferson, the practical founder of the Democratic Party, would not have been busy shouting down or banning opponents. That was for the Federalists, today's Republicans, with the Alien and Sedition Acts.
