What guarantee is ther that the new senators will toe the party line and pass the governments legislation? They can't be fired or disciplined and can conceivably vote any way they chose. |

No.
The current Senate set-up gives very little power to remove a Senator once they have been appointed. |

It's basically a gentleman's agreement. Same with the promise of recent Senators to step down and run for election when their province holds a Senatorial election. They can be removed from caucus, but not from their seat. |
