Ex-NHLer joins forces with the Green Party

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

MONTREAL ó Hockey tough guy Georges Laraque is throwing his considerable weight behind the Green Party of Canada.

The 260 lbs former Montreal Canadiens enforcer will be playing an as-yet undefined role with the political party, but isnít ruling out running in the next federal elections.

He made the announcement today in Montreal.

Laraque was approached by the Greens after expressing interest in the party in a TV interview.

The longtime NHL scrapper is also a vegan, meaning he doesnít eat meat and animal-derived products like milk and eggs.

Laraque was released by the Habs last month, right after scoring his only goal in two seasons with the team.

He was not a great hockey player to begin with. Funny how we have Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky on our team.

That guy obviously took too many pucks in the head!

Reminds me of the puckhead on the grit benches who sleezed his way for a "loan" extension from our friends at the non partisan always impartial keepers of the voting process.... gag gag gag.

Laraque as a Candidate for the Green Party on the Island of Montreal hurts the Bloc and NDP and helps the Liberals.

If he wants to be a Green party guy, then best of luck to him. He has as much right to his opinion as I do to mine.

He could potentially also run in Edmonton. He maintains a permanent residence here and is popular in the community. In a perfect world he would run in Edmonton-Strathcona and dig into Linda Duncan's vote in the next election.

Is this true? Are they both certified Conservatives?
How about Jenn Heil, she sure was spotted at many events with the PM.

Also does anyone know any others who are, doesn't even have to be a hockey player, like I know in the U.S. John Voight is a well known Republican supporter.

I'd love to know who else supports the Conservatives here in Canada... :D
