In its special report on the Arab world, the Economist magazine repeatedly mentioned a "battle of ideas" going on under the visible surface of stagnation and oppression. Is this a peek into the confrontation?
An extraordinarily high Sunni authority ordered a female student to remove the face-covering veil she was wearing and railed against the "tribal" nature of the niqab. Egyptian authorities are contemplating a ban on the full veil, leaving rules unaltered regarding the traditional hijab.
Tunisia is in Africa, but ya you are right. I haven't heard of any terrorists coming out of there. Another country would be Turkey, they also have a strong secular government. There are some very deep and hidden divisions within the muslim world, particularly between arabs and non-arabs. Its terrible how the arabs treat their fellow non-arab black muslims not to mention Pakistani and Indian muslims who are treated like slaves in Dubai and elsewhere.
Unlike Christianity or any other religion, Islam has discrimination based on ethnicity and language written into it. Most muslim scholars would say that the Koran is the literal word of Allah transcribed by his prophet Muhammad, in arabic of course, therefore the Koran can only be written in arabic and recited in arabic, all other languages are inferior. Same goes with race, Muhammad himself had black slaves and he had some nasty things to say about blacks and other "mud peoples".
