| Who is running for the CPC in Vancouver Quadra, Vancouver Centre and Vanvouver South? Same candidates as last time? Do we have a shot at winning any of these from the Libs this time? |

Vancouver South: Wai Young lost by 20 votes to Ujjal Dosanjh in a traditionally strong Liberal riding. She will be running again. Our best shot is in this riding. However, it will be a tough battle since Ignatieff is doing better in BC than Dion did. This will be the riding to watch.
Vancouver Quadra: I don't think they have a candidate yet. The Liberals won this by less than 9% last election. Definitely an uphill battle, but it could be a pickup.
Vancouver Centre: I don't know who's the candidate, but it probably won't be Lorne Mayencourt since he got a federal appointment. I think as long as Hedy Fry's there, she'll win since she ran against three very formidable opponents but still came out on top. It was won by the Liberals by less than 10% (over the Conservative candidate), but the close race was more so due to the fact that Green party candidate Adriane Carr drained a lot of Liberal and NDP votes. Probably a Liberal hold.
Vancouver Kingsway: The Liberals might take this back from the NDP with a good candidate. I see this mainly as a Liberal-NDP race, but the Conservatives did surprisingly well in this riding.
Vancouver East: The strongest NDP riding in Canada. No competition.

Pundits' Guide keeps track of all the nominations. Here's the link to the Conservative's one http://www.punditsguide.ca/par.....amp;pane=1
It shows near the bottom that the Tories have re-nominated Wai Young in Vancouver South, which is unsurprising considering how close she came to knocking off Ujjal Dosanjh. As for Vancouver Centre and Vancouver Quadra, there doesn't appear to be a Conservative candidate yet.

Looks like Tony Fogarassy is vying for the Vancouver Quadra nomination. I don't know the status of whether he's nominated or not, but his resume is really a perfect fit for this riding (wind energy company, lawyer, geologist, worked at UBC, grew up in riding). He was also the Conservative candidate in Vancouver Centre in the 2006 election. |

I think Dosanjh ticked off plenty of British Columbians with his arrogant little post-election hissy fit that hopefully the backlash will be enough to unseat him. I hope the narrow win last time attracts more ad resources and volunteers this time round - this would be a nice victory.
It wouldn't hurt in BC to focus group the tantrum footage and see if Dosanjh's notoriety can be used to drag down a few more Liberals. |

Okay, so according to a comment on "stevejanke's" blog, the Conservatives are running a woman called Rachel Greenfeld who runs a social networking club. http://www.rachelgreenfeld.com
http://www2.canada.com/vancouv.....c575daeb69
^This article doesn't make me thrilled with her candidacy at all. The way Greenfeld put it -- that she's only "OK" with the Conservative platform -- doesn't make her sound very grounded in her beliefs or convictions.
So far:
Vancouver Centre: Rachel Greenfeld
Vancouver South: Wai Young
Vancouver Quadra: Tony Fogarassy??
Vancouver Kingsway: Not nominated yet
Vancouver East: Not nominated yet |

So she's a small business person who doesn't want to see the Liberals looking after the economy, wants to get people back to work and also wants to support the military. I think a lot of Conservatives are "OK" with that too!
Vancouver Centre is not the place to run a social conservative candidate, but maybe a fiscal conservative can connect with voters and give Fry a run for her money. Young, constructive and savvy Conservative candidate against a shrill Chretien Liberal throwback?
It's a pretty short quote to get much substance out of anyway, but here are her own words:
| Quote: | | "I know, we're all born liberal in Vancouver, but I also think we're in for some tough economic times," said Greenfeld. "The fishery and forestry industries are hurting and people are unemployed. We need to create jobs so people can pay taxes. I also want to support our military. If that's the Conservative's platform, I'm OK with that." |
I think her choice of words shows some media/voter awareness. Starting out with what she's in favour of - economy, jobs, military etc. then linking that with Conservative values seems like a better way to connect with voters.

That's a great site that I was, before now, unaware of.
Thanks so much for posting it. |

Looking more at her profile, I was too quick to make a judgment. I take back what I said. She's actually very qualified and she does seem to fit Vancouver Centre quite well since she's one of those socially savvy and urban types. She was also educated at Harvard Business School. It will be interesting to see how she in particular mobilizes her voters on election day, since that's a very important factor in winning. |

Update:
Deborah Meredith, the former Vancouver Quadra candidate (who lost by only 151 votes in the by-election and around 8% in the general election) is also seeking the nomination again. So it will be a nomination contest between Deborah and Tony Fogarassy. Two very qualified candidates and much better representation than the current under-performing MP Joyce Murray. |

| I thought Lorne Mayencourt was running again. It would be great to have him represented in Parliament as he seems to be on the libertarian wing of the party. |
