Are you getting more interest now that Fast Eddy is talking deficit spending?

We have had several waves of new members and increased contributors.

The first significant one was when the NRF was first introduced (fall 2007) then again during the Feb-Mar 2008 election.

And now again in 2009 and it is due to several factors coming together, making a good combination for a prairie "wild" fire. ;)

Things like paying off our debt, raising nearly as much as the PC during the election and as the Herald pointed out

Quote:
While the Alberta Progressive Conservatives raised nearly as much money last year as their three closest competitors combined, the fledgling Wildrose Alliance snagged a greater number of $20,000-plus donations than the dynastic Tories.

http://www.calgaryherald.com/n.....story.html

... so we are starting to get more attention. People are taking the time to learn we are not "radical" or "far" right wing. We are fiscally conservative and socially moderate and that is beginning to reasonate with people. :)

Our members are asking us to hold meetings to introduce their friends and family to us. For the first time in our history we have the monetary ability to book the venues and advertise on local radio stations and in newspapers.

Great news! While I don't relish the idea of splitting the right, I would argue Stelmach and his gaggle don't appear to represent the right. The dynasty, it appears, has run it's course.

It is somewhat exciting, and a silver lining in the recession, IMO. I was worried at first, but it seems like most people get that at least in Alberta's case, a defecit is totally unnecessary this year. If spending has grown at anything even close to inflation and population increase, we'd still be in surplus.

The party needs to change it's name and from what I understand, that's what they're looking into. AND the Alberta Party and Social Credit need to all come together into this as well and just call it the Alberta Party, like they have in Saskatchewan.

Weird adjectives like True Conservative Party or Alberta First just won't ring.

I wanted to vote for them but didn't because I didn't think it had enough viable candidates, especially in my riding.

I really really wish it wasn't that way.

And after a conversation with the man just before he retired from federal politics, Monte Solberg would be my choice for a leader of such a party.

We're heading your way - Southern Alberta

Last night in Calgary we had a very successful townhall meeting. Over 50 people attended, predominantly new faces coming out to learn about us, which is very exciting. In a previous post I mentioned we have had three individuals express an interest in obtaining more information on the leadership race when it becomes available. Two of those three were in attendance last night; they are both very excited and chomping at the bit.

To say we have been very busy the last two weeks would be a drastic understatement. One of the things keeping me busy is the training of our newest full-time employee, Daniela. Luckily she is a quick study and eager to help out any way she can; including processing membership inquiries, contributions and of course AGM registrations.

Her joining us now was perfectly timed as we have been churning out 30 to 50 new or renewing members per day this week. Also Daniela will be very capable at “holding down the fort” as Paul and I hit the road again over the next two weeks.

Here is what we have lined up:

May 13 – Wednesday

Medicine Hat Lodge
1051 Ross Glen Drive, SE
7:00 PM

May 14 – Thursday

Lethbridge Lodge
320 Scenic Drive South
7:00 PM

After the May long weekend we will be stopping in the smaller towns.

May 19 – Tuesday – Taber
May 20 – Wednesday – Brooks
May 21 – Thursday – Strathmore

Locations are being finalized and all will start at 7:00 PM.
Keep an eye on our web calendar for updates.

Please pass along to friends and family that you may have in these areas.

So any talk of changing the party name or merging with the other conservative parties?

Some people don't like the Wildrose part, some don't like the Alliance part; but they join anyway. It is not preventing us from growing. The vast majority are ok with the name.

For a lot of the people who complain about the name, it is just the thing they complain about now. I bet you most of them would find something new to complain about even if there was a change.

I can tell you, it is not on the agenda for our June AGM.

There are other conservative parites? .... LOL

OK, maybe one or two.
But it would hardly be a merger. Given we are averaging more new members per day right now, than they have in total.

Having said that, joining forces is not all about membership numbers.
