Just noticed it, so I'll link to it. People in Quebec are apparently so worried that they're plotting to replace Harper in the next few months. Two names being bandied about are former NB Premier Bernard Lord and Quebec Premier Jean Charest.

Idle speculation or something more? The Quebec poll numbers have been bad recently. If the Ontario numbers also fall (like they appear to have in this Nanos poll), this may become more than just speculation.

Update March 21: Added Star/La Presse/Nanos poll link.
Update March 23: More rumblings, this time from named sources.
Update March 29: This is getting serious.
Update March 30: Le Devoir/Leger poll.
Update April 3: Chantal Hebert thinks the new Charest is Brad Wall. So does Don Martin.
Update April 16: Added links for the new Ekos/CBC poll and Lawrence Martin's G&M column.
Uodate April 22: Added link to Chantal Hebert's column.

What kind of an idiot would oust a sitting Prime Minister in a minority government situation.

What exactly has Jean Charest been good on, last time I heard he was making taxes even higher in Quebec. Bernard Lord, I don't know about him. Sure he did do some good things as Premier in New Brunswick but I don't think he'd be a great leader either.

I have a strong inclination towards Scott Reid, but he likely would never get chosen. The only other candidates I can think of are perhaps Peter Mackay, Jim Prentice, Chuck Strahl, Jim Baird, or maybe [probably has some leadership aspirations] Maxime Bernier.

Charest or Lord? First off, they are not CONSERVATIVE!!! Why not just pick up John Tory. I hear he's looking for a new job in the world of politics since screwing up just about everything else.

Lord has steadfastly declined to seek office since his tenure as Premier of New Brunswick ended. Charest an incumbent premier with a new majority.

Aside from the logistics of the situation (anyone know when the next Conservative leadership review is scheduled?) this sounds like just another incident of anti-Harper carping to me.

Perhaps Mr Dion would like to take Mr Harpers job.......lol Where do these people get off?

Just tonight I listened to Iggy speaking in Winnipeg. He bragged that he was the Prime Minister's probation officer. I am disgusted. Who does this guy think he is? We know he is the Leader of the Opposition but should there not be some respect given to the position of Prime Minister of Canada. He sounded like a pompous ass!

I believe that Mr. Harper stands tall amongst these pretenders to the throne!

Charest did what he had to do to win.....same with Lord. You can't win in either of those provinces with a "true conservative platform". They would likely end up with the same watered down policies as Harper.....but without the "hidden agenda" problem Harper has.

As for Maxime Bernier...he may be popular, but he has shown horrible judgement.

I think its hard to pick a leader because Harper does not let stars emerge. The Liberals were always successful by having powerful ministers. Mulroney was too. People in Newfoundland voted for John Crosbie or Brian Tobin as much as they did for the party or the leader. For the good of the party, Harper should be giving his ministers more exposure.

Sure - no one knows who Flaherty, Prentice, Baird, MacKay, Day, Towes, Strahl, or Nicolson are just to name a few familiar faces.

I don’t believe there is need of a leadership review. I believe it is in the party constitution that a leadership review is only held after an election loss. As for the name of the source, with the name like Chretien, is it really trustworthy?

Guilt by association of name? Chretien is like a French version of Smith or Jones.

The "big tent" approach tends to lead to this kind of strife since the leader can't possibly be everything to each and every member of the party... and a leader who tries to do exactly that isn't a leader, he's a follower.

The pertinent question is how large is the increase in Quebec CPC memberships. Only CPC members get to vote on party leadership.
