How come when Bernanke says it, it's considered genius, but when Harper says it, he's accused of living on another planet?

Quote:
On Sunday evening, America’s central banker, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, told the CBS news program 60 Minutes that he thought the recession there would bottom out this year. By late-2009, he said, the U.S. economy might even begin to grow again — albeit slowly — with recovery likely next year.
Even though Mr. Bernanke’s forecasts were very modest, they were still the most optimistic from a senior U.S. official in several months. Yesterday, editorialists and headline writers across America praised him for giving hope to investors and consumers, and stock markets mostly continued a rally they had begun last week. Even foreign markets seemed to respond favourably to Mr. Bernanke’s assurances, once again pointing out the centrality of the U.S. economy to global prosperity.
So why is it that when our Prime Minister Stephen Harper said many of the same things last week in Brampton, Ont., several Canadian media outlets and nearly all of the opposition leaders roundly criticized him for trying to paper over how bad (they believe) the economy truly is?

Could you provide a link to where Harper was criticized for supposedly underestimating the recession?

You could have done a Google search and found this in ten seconds yourself but I understand that you are a busy person...

"Don't worry, be happy," said NDP Leader Jack Layton.

Quote:
"Canadians are losing jobs at twice the rate of the Americans right now, and it's not good enough to go to Canadians and sing them happy songs," the Liberal Leader warned. "They want their Prime Minister to tell them the truth, and I think he's being economical with the truth."

Is it really unreasonable to ask for a link?

The other day ctv implied that since Harper said "The renovation tax credit is great too because if you have a wife, this spring you'll be doing renovations" (laugh) he is anti-women. Figure that one out

I wonder if Harper were not a politician, would he be seen in the same light.

I am just saying Bernanke does not get criticized because he is not a politician.

It is when the quotes were in the article I originally posted which you apparently didn't bother to read. Instead you BOLDED your statement as if to suggest that my statement was ridiculous.
