My pontifications in another thread led me to a more thorough examination of the party constitution than I've done in the past, and I was surprised to see just how much of our party's governance has been left at the discretion of the National Council. While I feel we have been well served by the National Council, I also think there are some issues that are so vital to the health of a grassroots party that it would be innapropriate to delegate their disposition to such bodies over the collective wisdom of the membership.
In specific, I am concerned that most of the rules regarding nomination contests are not set out in our party constitution, but rather are defined by the National Council. While I do not have too many objections to the rules as they currently stand, I think it would better reflect the principles of our party if these rules were subject to definition by the larger membership. Does anyone have any thoughts?
