if you check the elections ontario website there is only 20 polls left and he is behind by 1000 votes , he is not going to pull this one off i would say . i've only seen one candidate pull off a victory when that far behind / behind most of night and that was tony clement in 06 election when he won by 28 votes in the end ( which was because he did alot better in the advance polls that election as cpc was polling higher then if you remember )
but i doubt tory will be able to make up those numbers or did better in the advance polls .

Elections Ontario: Latest byelection results Mar 05, 2009 10:39 PM
THE CANADIAN PRESS

LINDSAY, Ont.–Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory has lost his bid for a seat in the Ontario legislature and his political future is now uncertain.

The embattled leader failed to win a Peterborough-area byelection that would have put him back in the Opposition benches after more than a year of punishing political exile.

Tory also lost his bid for the Toronto seat of Education Minister Kathleen Wynne in the 2007 election, which saw his party defeated in one of its worst showings ever.

Many blamed the loss on Tory's controversial proposal to extend public funding to religious schools, fuelling a rebellion within the party ranks.

That mistake nearly cost Tory his job, but he hung on despite calls for his resignation, a 66.9 per cent approval rating in a nail-biting leadership vote last year, and the lack of a seat in the legislature.

Experts say a loss will almost certainly mean that Tory will have to resign as leader of the party.

We're talking about John Tory here. He may try to get yet another MP to step down so he can waste another $500,000 of taxpayers money to embarrass himself. Seriously, losing twice in a row as Leader?

Whose Liz Whitmer?

Scratch that. Looked her up on wikipedia. Not impressed. She's a moderate (another John Tory) and was John Tory's deputy leader.

What's Mike Harris doing? He saved Ontario from Rae and his deficit. Let's get him to do it again...

Well now that he's lost, I hope he can go back to fundraising for the party, which he did well.

A good blue Tory to support for the leadership would be Tim Hudak. Conservative, telegenic, and articulate.

As a Conservative I'd say yes. But a lot in Ontario are still anti-Harris. Just name name sets them off...

I agree, in good times. But these aren't good times. He is the only person so far to wipe the floor clean with McGuinty. I keep thinking someone up to the job of battling both the leftist media and the Liberal Party machine. In 1999, the media painted him out to be Hitler's brother. It took his campaigning and great debate to show the people who is boss. Also, fiscally, he represents the golden era (at least in the past 20 years).
