What are some of the changes (if any) you would like to see added or removed from our Constitution?
Some examples to get the discussion going
Individual rights
-the right to bear arms for self defense
-the right of free speech
-property rights
-the right of marriage between a man and a woman
-the right of the unborn
-various family rights like the right for equal time with children in the event of divorce
Collective rights
-an amendment to limit the government financially in terms of the amount of annual deficit, tax increases, or printing of money per year. If the government exceeds these barriers then a referendum is held and they must pass the referendum (ie. 50% of the vote). If the referendum fails then an election. I would set deficit barrier at 0.25-0.5% of GDP annually, tax increases at 1% GDP annually, and printing of money at 1% of total currency.
-Elections for the following: Supreme/Court of Appeal/Superior/Family Law Judges
-Elections for all Senators
-Elections for Police chiefs (regional, municipal, provincial)
Provincial rights
-the right for provinces to raise their own armed forces and provincial police forces (like the OPP and national guard)
Anyways, these are just some ideas. I really want to know what you guys think would be ideal constitutional changes.

Any parts of the current constitution you would like to see removed?
Me personally, I would love to see multiculturalism removed. |

To remove the Senate wouldn't you have to get the Senate to approve it? That'd be kind of hard.
Wait, so there's property rights for abortions? |

Ya, the woman can kill the baby because the baby is considered to be her property and because the baby has no rights |

That's really messed up.
Oh ya, I forgot to add a few constitutional changes.
Elections for the following:
Supreme Court Judges
Court of Appeal Judges
Superior Court Judges
Family Law Judges
All Senators (if we keep the Senate)
Regional, Municipal, Provincial, and National Police Chiefs
Wanna add to the list? |

But rusty, if we start electing governor generals and their provincial counterparts, where are all the washed up CBC journalists suppose to go to retire? |

Elected senate.
Rights for the unborn.
Property rights.
Enforce language rights for English minorities in Quebec.
Reduce the role of Quebec in our federation.
Get rid of official bilingualism.
Elected judges in civil/criminal courts.
Re-recognized Canada’s official name… Dominion of Canada.
Get rid of the Supreme Court’s power over final say on political issues, but should enforce and uphold the will of parliament.
When Prince Charles become king, we remove ourselves for the commonwealth and become a Republic, with an elected Head of State, which he or she having control over all of Canada’s foreign affairs, while parliament will maintain control over domestic affairs. |

I agree with Justin, mostly.
Elected Senate is a must!
Abortion needs to be looked at, yes. I'm all for womans rights but I think there is a limit. If the woman doesn't want a baby, then give it up for adoption. If her life is in danger, medically speaking, then do what needs doing. But there is no excuse for abortion.
Elected President? - No. We have a GG and a PM. Having a President is usless. You'd basically just be changing positions around. the President would be PM and the GG would be the PM, with some more legislative powers. - I like the British system for the most part, minus the whole idea of appointed senators and the ability of coalition governments.
Right to Bare Arms - Yes. Or at least more freedom with regardds to personal protection!
Election of all Judges - No. Less government! Elected judges add to the politics.
Melting Pot - Yes. Canada first. You come to Canada, you are Canadian first and foremost. Keep pride in your ancestry, of course, culture is wonderful. But once you are Canadian – this country is most important. |

I don't know. The Labour PM Gordon Brown is racking up huge deficits, printing money like Mugabe, and generally speaking running the British economy into the ground. Pretty soon you'd probably be able to buy Britain and make it a colony of Canada. |
