It has been give a bad name because traditional attempts at implementation have focused on harming those deemed to be not worthy - forced sterilization or worse.

But what if we were to approach it from a positive perspective. Instead of infringing on the rights of the average and below average, why not implement measures that encourage procreation amongst those who score well in eugenics tests. It would be a point system something like this...

1. Genetics (100 points). Lose 20 points for each instance of the following: diabetes, heart disease (below the age of 60), cancer (below the age of 60) and 10 points for lesser genetic diseases. You also lose 20 points for any relative dying of natural causes before the age of 60 and you gain 20 points for every relative surpassing 90 years of age.

2. Athletic ability (50 points) - coordination tests, fighting tests, speed test, endurance tests, swimming, jumping, strength.

3. Intelligence (100 points) - comprehensive IQ test

4. Beauty (30 points) - subjective measure based on rankings of 100 random individuals.

Participation is purely voluntary. People who score 90%+ will receive $50,000 per child per year until 18 years of age. people who score 80%+ will receive $10,000 per child per year until 18 years of age.

Genetic elitism. :D What a novel concept. Thank you Darwin.

If history has taught us anything, it is that the road to hell truly is paved with the very best intentions. Any eugenics program is destined to end badly, with "useless eaters" getting short shrift.

We unwittingly perform eugenics on a daily basis in this country. Welfare is a subtle form of eugenics - it facilitates child birth amongst the poor. I'm simply suggesting that we identify the very best, brightest, strongest, and most beautiful and offer them incentives to have many children.

Eugenics, like AGW, is what happens when people with extreme ideologies, either from ignorance or intent, misunderstand and distort science for political ends. It is not just evil and hubristic to think we can centrally plan reproduction, it is based in error.

Eugenics fails because it ignores or fails to account for random mutation, recessivity, multifactoral traits, and the uniquely human interaction of 'nurture versus nature'. It is a bad idea.

However, it is rediculous to reject practically our entire understanding of biology, chemistry, and medicine because some people cherry-pick it to support things like Eugenics. But this is neither here nor there.

Craig, I know that yours is not a serious proposal ... I detect the satire, but not the satirized subject. Care to elucidate?

I think that genetic engineering will help us attain many of the goals of eugenics through things like designer babies.

Many multi-culti lefties proudly state that in the future we'll all have brown skin.

I think the opposite is true. In the future, they're be a lot more blond-hair, blue-eyed "superkids".

Good luck getting anyone to agree with your points system.

Cool Blue I think eugenics is gonna be more about the geneoype not the phenotype.

If mutations are random then our selection of a desireable sub-set will have no impact. We all practice Eugenics when we date. Do you go looking for women at the cancer center? Why not formalize the process. In fact folks, I would be willing to bet that dating sites will have your mapped DNA sequence ranked so that prospective mates can filter based on certain criteria.

That's re-defining concepts to make it seem more acceptable.

Eugenics is the practice of eliminating people because of an undesirable trait.

Everyone wants babies that are good-looking, have good health, etc.

No one begrudges anyone for wanting that.

It's when you consciously want to eliminate people of a certain type-- that's when it becomes unacceptable.

As the mother of an autistic daughter, I find it reprehensible. She's not less of a person or less lovable because she has autistic traits.

Trying to manipulate the gene pool is social engineering of the worst kind.

Enter Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood. Abortion is a convenient way of eliminating groups deemed genetically inferior by bigots without calling attention to the fundamental sickness of it all.

In the past, "eliminating people" or sterilizing them was the only way to do it, however in the near future, we'll have genetic engineering and selective abortions.

The average person continues to be unaware of the crisis we have coming in the form of the birthrate declining and the death rate exponentially growing - as our greatly numbered older population is disappearing - while this generation is avoiding reproduction. Society is seeing fewer kids from affluent families. We may need to give these families an incentive to reproduce.

On the surface the idea sounds like a tool for elitism and that frightens some people. I see it as an insurance that those likely to produce the most intelligent progeny do...

I think it's an idea with some merit. Let's reduce what we spend on civil servants and spend some of it on a program like this....

That's not what is being advanced in this...Craig wrote:

Just to be clear about that...
