The latest on Ron Paul...

Quote:
A series of newsletters in the name of GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul contain several racist remarks -- including one that says order was restored to Los Angeles after the 1992 riots when blacks went "to pick up their welfare checks."

Sounds like Fred Thompson made some noise last night. The reviews are rave as they say.

This is actually good news, as McCain would have been bad, Obama a disaster, and all the rest middling to not so great. Thompson, in my opinion, is the best candidate left in the race on either side.

Apparently even the NY Times was impressed.

Because treaties only exist as long as no one wants to break them.

Thanks. That is some interesting stuff.

As I've posted before, since the US is such an antigovernment country structurally (just try to figure out how the Rube Goldberg-designed Constitution works) there's little call for even more restraint on government. Thus, a libertarian party or philosophy is always fringe.

Indeed. The ponderously slow pace of the US government is a feature, not a bug. That being said, the 'earmark' system used in Congress is being used and abused as never before - I'm glad we don't have that particular issue here.

I would suspect that Cabinet members get more patronage for their ridings than others. Also, what about the diversion of the aircraft contract to Quebec from Winnipeg? Isn't that the same abuse?

Don't get me wrong, politicians will be politicians and we have our fair share of corruption and graft - I was speaking of that specific system and it's issues, rather than corruption as a whole.
