Fox News host slams CBC documentary

Last Updated: Sunday, January 30, 2005 | 10:25 AM ET
CBC News

Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly has lashed out at a CBC documentary featuring guests who were highly critical of his show.

"Vicious attack on Fox News by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, totally out of any kind of bounds," said O'Reilly in his response Friday night to the Fifth Estate broadcast on Jan. 26.

"How low will they go? We'll show you the tape and you won't believe it!" was another response found on the Fox News website.

The Fifth Estate's website says the documentary examines the "war of words that's pitting conservative against liberal."

"It's loud, it's raucous, but does it have anything to do with the truth?" the site asks about the new kind of hard-hitting political debate on U.S. television.

Journalists, media watchers and other talk show hosts in the documentary took aim at the O'Reilly Factor and show's relationship with the truth.

In turn, the host had two guests on his show who agreed with him about the CBC.

"The Canadian government gives them a billion dollars to put this sort of stuff on the air, and the Canadian government is really at fault here, isn't it?" O'Reilly said to one guest.

"You scare the hell out of them, Bill," the guest answered.

CBC refused an invitation to appear on O'Reilly's show Friday night, and O'Reilly refused to be interviewed for the Fifth Estate broadcast.

In the past, O'Reilly has called the CBC radically to the left, the Globe and Mail a "far-left newspaper," and Canadian health care "socialist."

He and his conservative colleagues say they're doing journalism that is fair and balanced.

The Fox News Channel is the highest-rated news network in the United States. It is now widely available in Canada through cable and satellite services.

Going through CBC archive..my God look how they write that article. Infuriatingly biased.

I'm not surprised by this article. I am surprised that you seem surprised though. Are you new to the Liberal bias in the MSM? (This is meant to be a respectful question).

No, but I haven`t seen such overtly biased articles.

I mean they used to try to look objective, CBC doesn`t even try to be objective anymore....

Yes, it seems like they have taken it upon themselves to engage in advocacy journalism.

Sad, really. Advocacy journalism, or just outright bias and hatred for all things Bush, either way it's not actually journalism.

This is very old news. I remember watching the whole thing when it was relatively a hot thing back in 2005.

I would never go back watching CBC... waste of time and sanity

Of course they are anti-Fox news. Fox is in direct competition with CBC for viewers now.

grown people talking about the CBC - imagine

could be protected by the pink CRTC - and liberal wallets?

If you want change , change the channel or power down the PC and go see your MP

just don't expect the CBC to report this to the rest of the country. a good protest is we agree to shut off out TV's and radios for 6 weeks. and go out and talk to our families, friends and neighbours.

after 6 weeks the CBC will not be a problem , because we will have discovered something we all need , personal relations.

if you want a Conservative to hate you -tell them a lie,
but you will get the same reponse if you tell the truth to a liberal

When were they ever?
Sadly, this sort of bias is all too common. The Globe & Mail is also pretty bad.

Both Fox and CBC are horrible. Get your news from anywhere BUT the Far Right and Far Left.
