So, pet food, toothpaste, toys, tires, what is next?

http://stevejanke.com/archives/231514.php

Seems to me, that we need to start boycotting Chinese goods until they actually get their act together. Value for money is one thing, but they are taking cheap to a whole new level here.

I think I will write my MP asking that the border be closed to Chinese made goods and raw materials (like the wheat and rice products that went into the pet food). It seems that our safety is very much at stake here.

Buy Canadian, when you can, after that any Western democracy such as the US, Taiwan, Japan, Israel, should be preferred over this life threatening crap. Ask your grocer exactly where the food came from, and where the ingredients came from fro processed food.

I've actually started checking if food comes from China or not.

Do you know how hard it is to find canned mushrooms that don't come from China!?

I avoid Chinese products at all cost. Most of the stuff that comes out of there is crap for quality anyway. I have written both of my Senators and my Representative about putting the stops on Chinese products.

1) consumers would not want to pay more money
2) we would just buy more goods from other Asian countries, for more money but the same quality
3) China would ban our exports
4) Banning all Chinese importants makes no sense

We need to stop blaming government for this. Our friend from the US has it right, just dont buy chinese.
I was just at an Oil Show had the Chinese gov't had a booth there.
No one went to it, why? Because in the oil patch you buy chinese someone gets hurt.
or you have more down time (wich is very costly in that business).

The problem is Canadian companies getting things manufactured in China and importing them in. These people are very unprincipled!!!!!!!

Thank you for stating this. So many people think the government is a fix all. While I do make sure I am politically active on issues, I try and make my consumer actions more pronounced and stay away from government intervention at all cost. The power of the consumer is amazing, and once people get ahold of that things change quickly.

It is one of the governments jobs to ensure food safety. If food imports from a country are not safe, the government should be stepping in to stop those imports. I don't think the government should have many jobs, but this is definitely one of them.
