I think it has already happened.

Reality is that America is begin injected with socialism by a ton. Why look at the Character Assassination,Fear and Smear,Verbal Threats and Demonalizing the Republicans and Conversatives during the US mid-term Elections K......What does that tell you that the Socialists-Democrat Regime came to power through these Tactics it is no wondering many Christian Conservatives stayed away from the poll since the embarrassments of one Evangelical Preacher. Reps are acting more like a Advisory board then the opposition cause most of them are afraid to stand up to the Socialist-Democrat Regime since they hold the power and are back by Far-left groups from Anti-war Racist Hypercrites to Hollywood Elites.

I don't think it is that different. War is war, a very bad prospect. People die on both sides. The technology has changed, and some of the tactics, but it is the same goal as when the Romans fought the Gauls. These modern wars can be won, all it takes is time and the will. The IRA was defeated, they agreed to lay down their arms. Granted they were marginally less brutal and less suicidal than the nutters in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, and elsewhere. It took what, 3, 4 decades for the IRA to realize that they could not get what they wanted through fighting? It will take at least that long in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are only about 4 countries willing to do any heavy lifting in Afghanistan, if one of them sets a time table for withdrawal, what kind of message does that send?

Vietnam was winnable, up until public pressure forced an American withdrawal. There was not one battle that the US lost in the whole Vietnamese war, save the propaganda battle. I seems though that modern wars are fought and won on the media front more than anywhere else.

Q: People die on both sides

R: The difference is that these terrorists throw their irregular fighters into the fire by the handfuls and on the flip side - our leaders value the lives of our fighters. How to fight those creeps who want to die? That's the paramount difference in this matter...

The only thing that can be said for shore about time tables and War that is, is that you can have a time table for review of and the exacution of the plan, not exactly the end, but more of a means to the end !
