Quote: I'm not sure how the free market is going to solve this problem. If the farmers can get more selling their crops for fuel won't they just keep doing that?
The market will search for cheaper more efficient means to produce ethanol.
Cellulose derived ethanol is one option currently being explored. If this works out we'll be able to make fuel from cor husks and cobs (not thr grain).
this would not only lessen the cost (we'll be making fuel from waste) but it will also give farmers a additional revenue stream whilr not affecting the price of food.
Currently Iogen has a prototype ethanol plant outside of Ottawa doing just this.
