US President George W Bush has decided to send another 3 500 troops to Afghanistan, the White House announced on Sunday, which would raise the number of US forces there to 27 000.

"This is part of the effort to speed up the training and expand the size of the Afghan forces," said national security spokesperson Gordon Johndroe.

Johndroe said the request was already alluded to in an address the president made last month on Afghanistan and the global "war on terror".

Bush announced the planned deployment of the additional troops in a letter sent to congress late on Saturday.

It is good news although where is the rest of the world in this?
I know where they are hiding in the North of Afganistan, like cowards.
I have been questioning the UN's relevance for a while now, I now I am questioning NATO's.
It isnt NATO itself that I am questioning its the partners within NATO. Maybe this is a good time to look a NATO and cut the countries out that aren't helping. Eg/ France Germany.....and the list goes on.

Well NATO was a defensive organization which was around to stop communism.
So i dunno if disbanding it makes sense.

I agree that the US is carrying most of the burden, BUT they are the ones who want to use bilatrialism not multilaterialism AND they are the ones who decided to unilateriality attack Iraq.

France is doing alot elsewhere (look at their total troop deployments)
and compare Germany to Japan.
People freak out if the Japanese do ANYTHING.......

It really depends on what you want NATO to be, I think its good for defensive things but we are so weak that it should only be used for things like Kosovo where we are in and out fast (so the populations dont bitch as much)
