Just curious as to what others might do as a Conservative PM with a majority (ie. the ability to make bigger changes than we can at the moment). If I had a majority, I'd:

1) Sell the CBC and all assets to the highest bidder. Take this cash and use it for one time equipment purchases for the military (maybe a new destroyer or two). Effective immediately on sale, transfer the budget to DND, and raise the salaries of all NCMs and junior officers by $10,000 per year. Direct the rest to recruiting.

Create long term plans to add at least 2 more functional battle groups (we have 3) to our land forces over 10 years. Increase naval and air element capabilities as needed to maintain sovereign control of our seas and air space.

2) Institute income splitting immediately, and then over the course of the term, prepare for a transition from income tax to a flat, consumption based 'fair tax' system for individuals. Cut corporate taxes and small buisiness taxes, and eliminate capital gains taxes for individuals if reinvested in the same year.

3) Dismantle the federal firearms registry for all firearms, included restricted firearms. Destroy all records. Beef up the license screening process, and transfer the resources /staffing to the RCMP for use in security clearence checks and admin.

Continue agressive recruitment and training of RCMP Officers. Attempt to double the number of Auxiliary Constables at applicable detachments. Continue plans to arm Border Guards, and arm all Park Wardens over 10 years.

4) Place a moratorium on the growth of CUPE, grandfathering current union members, and slowly eliminate the unions through normal attrition. Alternatively, pass no-strike legislation for federal employees.

5) Institute no further increases to Equalization. Negotiate with provinces to synchronize cuts in federal tax with a net-equivalent increase in provincial tax, on a province by province basis. Transition regional development departments into direct transfers to the regions, on a per capita basis, then phase out as per equalization.

6) Phase out health care transfers to the provinces as per #5. Pass legislation barring further gov't spending in provincial areas without unanimous consent of the legislatures. Provinces can raise money by raising their own taxes. Phase out funding of municipalities, again through tax synchronization.

7) Reintroduce capital punishment for very serious and certain repeat offenders (ensure rules requiring heavy burden of proof). Legalize marihuana, mushrooms. Decriminalize cocaine. Maintain prohibition on other drugs, and create forced addiction treatment as a sentencing option for hard drug users. Encourage the use of 'drug court' models.

Just a few things to get discussion rolling ... I'm sure many will already disagree with the above

Enshrine an "Employers Bill of Rights" in the constitution that guarentees them the right to hire and fire whoever they want whenever they want for whatever reason they want(including for kicks).

1- Purge every Trudeau-topian program without exception.
2- Establish a formula for MP representation per population.
3- Goodbye gun registry (long guns and hand guns both)
4- Entrench property ownership rights.
5- Double MPs basic salaries... but eliminate their pension plan.

Ah, the age old question...What would you do as Prime Minister?

1)Abolish Reservations...we are isolating an entire society by forcing natives to stay on reservations in order to keep "tax-free" status. Abolish them, let the natives keep pieces of land, let them elect their leaders (like municipalities), let their leaders tax them and make revenue...the old reservations will work like new cities/towns...this is not self government, this is self pride.

2)Federalize Education...the provinces continue to screw this up, so I'd take it over. My government would have the best people in their respective feilds help create a National Universal School Board Cirriculum (Universal because I would disolve Catholic and Public and merge them). The entire country would have one lesson plan from Kindergarten to the most advanced years in University. I would then hand power over the boards back to the province for funding, dealing with teachers...all the everyday stuff.

3)Bye Bye CBC...hello Canadiana Telecomunications. In Bavaria, they have state run radio that plays pop music, traditional and classical...they play pop music without commercials...and none of it's German!...C.T. would play all kinds of music, but have commercials, so it would be another form of income for the government...it's TV and Newspaper section will do the same plus it would be better then the tired old CBC...

4)Reform Beaurocracy...because it's annoying!...nothing gets done because the beaurocracy is too big, because it's too inefficient...It's big because it need to get around its inefficency by being inefficent...wierd eh?...Make it efficient, make it smaller, make Canadians happier...

5)The Biggy...A National Referendum on the creation of a Canadian Republic...total government overhaul...if we throw off the monarchy, we can throw off the inefficient parliamentary system we have now and create a new system that works in the best intrests of all Canadians...Proportional Representation or something...Everything else would have to wait for that, because the first day of parliament, I would call the referendum...and go from there...

If i was a conservative PM with a majority i would do the following 5 point plan in order:

1.Dissolve the Youth Justice/Young Offenders Act:Create a get tough anti-youth crime measure which will include A.Tried as a Adult for murder, rape,Vandalism, theft and Assault and Hate Crime related Offense. B. set up Youth Jails and tear down these Youth Detention centres{ie...juvenile Hall},band Young Offender's items of possion like CD's and other items of interest. Juveniles must wear orange Track suits personal clothes are to be Banned as well as TV and Newspaper. Sentencing will and must fit the crime and parents will pay compensation to the victim. Offender should not and will not be released to the parent after the crime is commited. C. RCMP has a right to hold the Young Offender for 30 days Bail is not permissonable.

2.Ban the Gun Resgistry: Divert the wasted Millions into investing in to new ways to aid RCMP on Crime{New Recruits,Better Protection}.

3.ShipBuilding for the Canadian Navy:Building your own ships is perhaps one thing i would like to see this nation do. We already have build 12 frigates so why not Subs and Destoryers.

4.Increase Army and Airforce size:I would go with my best interest in hoping to get F-22's to replace the CF-18's. While the army it would be nice to get a Abram M-1 tank.

5.RCMP and Police:Give powers back to the police by allowing them to do their job without begin scrutinzed that they have their hands tied{preventive arrests and survlaence}.

If I had a an ideal relationship with the oppsition and provincial g'vmts I would:
1)Create an electoral College for the GG, delegates would be elected based on provincial population every 10 y.
2) GG would serve one mandate of 10 y. Parliament can cut the mandate short 5 y. in
3)Triple E Senate: PR for each province, same amount of senators for each province
4)GG and 2/3 of senate can reverse any court decision
5)Provinces get control of regional issues, Feds get issues of national importance
6)GG, MPs, Sen., judges may be impeached for inappropriate conduct or High Crimes and Misdemenors
7)With 3 million signatures, a law may be refered for plebicite at the next election
8)Mandatory House elections every 4 y., if PM, no-confidence, or GG don't call one earlier
9)A Grand Session presided by the GG for a disagreement over a law
10) Recall for MPs or Sen.
11)Rotation for appointment of SCC justices by province, by date of entry into Confed.
12)RCMP becomes similar to FBI, provinces in charge of small crimes
13)GG may impose a time limit for a law to be passed by the House or Senate. If said law isn't passed in time the law dies on the order paper, if it dies 3 times the GG may sign it
14) Government residences in Western Canada
15) Chance Youth Criminal Justice Act, notably, locking juvenille records after culprits 18th birthday. A subpoena may open those records.

1) income splitting

2) use constitutional powers as PM to eliminate trade barriers between provinces and create a true national economic union

3) reorganize all government ministries as "agencies" a la Revenue Canada (creates a private business-like climate and efficiencies)

4) increase foreign aid to .7% but focusing aid on emerging democracies which respect human rights and the rule of law (no more money for China and Zimbabwe)

5) introduce a "fund the child" daycare system (similar to current universal childcare benefit but enough to cover the full amount of day care)

6) review, reorganize, reform and harmonize all federal government benefit programs for efficiency (one application, one department for all benefits)

1. lower income tax rates -45% overall so every Canadian gets a break and our tax rates become comparable to Austalia and U.S.- 34%.

2. Reduce size of government.

3. Introduce policies to increase productivity. Increase spending on R&D. Lower tax rate on O/T.

4.

in exchange for a law limiting Fed spending in areas of Prov. responsibilty

5. Work with provinces to harmonize GSt and PST.

6. Simplify tax system. Flat tax, whatever.

7. recognize the Quebecois as a founding nation along with the English, Aboriginals and Acadians in a preamble to the Constitution. In exchange for this recognition I would ask for a 3E senate.

8. Settle any lawsuits with the armed forces or RCMP due to Liberal theft of their pension funds and apologize to these defenders of our Liberty for this shameful act.

Good one, though some provinces would never go for it (Quebec).

NAFTA is all we need if we have real free trade, that allows no tax or duty and free movement of goods, services and people.
We are not American, we do not bow down the the dollar bill and only the dollar bill like our American cousans do. If you want to be American you are free to move there. This is Canada and will always be Canada. Canada and Canadians first !
