CPC members get to vote in leadership contests. Also, membership also lets you vote for nominees to be the CPC candidate on the ballot for the next election.

And you get to be solicited for donations every once in a while 8)

You get the satisfaction of contributing to your party..

You'll get the occassional invite to events, and if you donate enough you get them more frequently and to special events.

Most importantly-

You get to call yourself a card-carrying conservative. Now who doesn't get excited about that!?

\Once in a while? Try at least twice a month. If an election is looming, expect weekly calls. VERY annoying.

I don't think being a citizen is a requisite to joining a political party. But one can't vote in elections unless one is a citizen .

So contact the party and ask not to be solicited for donations if you find it that bothersome.

besides the above mentioned privileges:

1) you're eligible to join the board in your riding
2) you're allowed to attend board meetings
3) you can participate in the policy development process (which is happening now)

I also understand that in some ridings (mostly western) businesses will give you discounts, but this is rare.

Yeah a quick phone call/email will get you on the "do not contact list"

I joined the CPC last year, and after numerous emails to them, I have never recieved anything from the party. No membership card, no mail, etc.

I did get a few phone calls asking for money though?

Anyone know why that might be?

What do you want? A plaque to hang on the wall?

Because political parties need money to operate?

Any sign of membership? Maybe a newsletter? or a membership card that everybody is talking about? Did you even read what I posted?

Again, I was wondering what was going on in the organization. I signed up for a membership, they didn't acknowledge it, but they did seem to put me on their calling list. I'm not questioning why they fund raise...

Contact your local riding association (EDA) and ask them to check if you're a member. Secondly find out how organized they are.

If they're not very well organized then there might not be anybody to actually create and mail out newsletters.

Lastly, the party is very slow in getting membership cards out. It is quite common for people to only get cards 6-8 months after joining.
