Spitfires ... what beautiful planes!

What was deadly in 1942 became an antique by 1958.

The RAF had some advantages, as well. The Germans would have to fly to Britain, and then fly home, so they had to keep an eye on the gas gauge. The British took off as the German formations were coming into sight, and they didn't have to go far to get back home. So they had an important advantage over the attackers.

They also had radar! They could detect the formations coming, and set up air ambushes.
