Jesse Kline: Lawful access bill set to become the new gun registry

http://fullcomment.nationalpos.....-registry/

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews has placed the Conservatives’ so-called “lawful access” legislation — which they’ve been trying to pass since 2009 — on the House of Commons Order Paper. If it becomes law, the bill will give the government unprecedented access to Canadians’ online activities, by allowing police to collect the personal information of Internet users — including names, addresses, phone numbers and browsing history — without having to go through the cumbersome process of obtaining a warrant beforehand.

I don't know about Harper, but Toews's "You are with us or you are with the child pornographers!" line was stupid, evil, senseless garbage. That line alone makes me want the bill stopped dead in its tracks and Toews removed from cabinet immediately.

optimus2861, I agree it was the most insulting crap I have heard as well as being a lie. The Harper party are proving that they are more liberal than conservative something people were wondering when they were in a minority. As far as I am concerned Harper is the boss and a minister does not do this without his consent.

Is this garbage bill (Awfull Acsass) what many of us worked to achieve through the long years of the devided parties (1993-2003), the creation of the CPC in 2003-4, 2004 election, 2006 coming to power, 2008 and then the attempted coup by the opposition parties and finally majority in 2011? I should have stayed home.

Grade school children would have better debating skills then Tubs. The creation of straw men was a Liberal speciality in days gone by and they were better at it. I hope that Tubs gets the Dechert treatment. At least Bob never made it into Cabinet.

What's the next great argument for Tubs? " Let me see your stuff or you got the Cootiies!"?

This is complete BS. We already have the tools to fight online crime. The internet is a horrible and dangerous place; however, the internet is probably the most free form of media we have. If you say something about the government or whatever, the government can track your ass with this bill without reason. Its basically NDAA or the Patriot Act for the internet.

I have been following this in the NP and the Harper party and the loud mouthed arrogant twat Teows are in for a surprise. They have in my opinion shown their true lefty colours with legislation first thought up by the Liberal party.

It's too bad they pursued this after the last stink, neither Toews nor Harper are stupid men, which leads me to believe there must be something we are missing?

Agree that if they go through with it, along with changes to OAS the CPC is toast next election.

Personally I think that this bill is indirectly 'directed' at finding/tracking Islamists in Canada - if they were to advertise it as that - there would be a backlash - from a certain community - that they are being targeted. In my opinion Bill C-30 isn't invasive - yes there is potential for abuse - but if bureaucrats want to abuse rights - they don't need legislation to do that - as my 'Saskatchewan' experience has shown me! I support Bill C-30...

As for Old Age Security - what do people expect? This has to be done as in the long term we cannot 'gamble' that the economy shall grow in step with the payouts - they will not be implementing this for how many more years? Of course in 1995 when the Liberals gutted HRDC and amended the EI legislation - they created a 20 billion plus surplus by turning down claims across the board - where was the indignation of Canadians then? How many of Canada's working poor suffered by that Liberal decision? In my opinion the government's changes to OAS are nothing like that...

Actually Toews did not say that those opposed to the bill are pedophiles. He invited opponents to go stand with them, and that is a very different thing.

What he said was obviously stupid, but he didn’t call anyone a pedophile, so we should quote what Minister Toews actually said. It doesn’t help the case to make up stuff.
