I guess I would need some help on how you want to define what qualifies a "person of the year" in terms of making news its hard to argue (at least for me) that after seven years of minority governments someone from Canadian politics has to be considered.

While what Stephen Harper was very impressive,
I have to say at least for this year for me it was Jack Layton.

Regardless of his politics, he ran the most impressive two weeks of any campaign in memory going from by some indications 12% nationally to 30% and going from 10% in Quebec to well over 40% in a very short span.

He also was the man who did what Four liberal leaders, One Reform leader, Two Alliance leaders, Four Progressive Conservative leaders, Two NDP leaders, and one Conservative leader could not do and that was crush the Bloc, that at a minimum deserve a tip of my hat.

In this case I have to toss my partisan strip aside, and give to Jack.

I suspect if Harper moves forward with the Fair Rep Act, Continues making cuts, successfully passes the Omnibus crime bill, and assures the LRG scrapper bill makes its way through the Senate then he has a pretty solid inside track for 2012.

Cosmo, Cosmo... and I respect most of your comments. Layton? Tell me you didn't drink the Kool-Aid.

You are one of the forum members that truly informs and does his work, a reason why I spend time posting and making comments. I could care less about a certain contingent. I have a weblog that is read in many parts of the world, Google keeps asking if I wish to advertise, but that's not the purpose, and I am working on my third novel attempt, off and on, so one forum is enough. Panmacmillan expressed interest in one of them. But I am seriously considering a websiet and ebooks.

On my weblog only a select comment gets through. In the past none, unless they had a real name, maybe picture, or at least a website or another blog that I could verify the person isn't a troll. There were several servers in Taiwan that were connected, until the election, now nada. No Chinese servers, before. Now one or two check it out.

Layton had some good traits and he did some interesting things, but to me he was a flake, a socialist flake.

By the way, some of the people I listed were jokes such as Margaret Attwood.

You might enjoy the recent comment I made about her on the following link.

ps. Thank you for voting and making a comment, which indicates to you know who, that readers will post and comment. Most of my threads there are hundreds who read them, and many of them are not forum members. Many are of the left. Some journalists and other media types. A few who know or have experienced the wrath of Sagebrush, especially when they atatck my main man The Right Hounourable Stephen Harper. Smart criticism, like yours about other issues, is okay.

Conntinue the awareness...

I didn't vote NDP in 2011 if that is what you are asking;

Its not even about Kool-Aid,
You and I have both followed politics for a long time, maybe I am missing something but I haven't see many 15 point jumps in 14 days.

Politically; there is very little I could relate to in terms of his policy.
However he slayed the Liberals and the Bloc and in the process did all of us a favor.

Regardless of if I agree with his politics the man campaigned on his death-bed and even though I don't agree with him I respect the fact that he believe in his cause so much so that he went through all that in order to try to forward that cause.

At the end of the day Layton's rise in popularity at the expense of the Liberals won Harper enough seats in the GTA to for a majority government without Quebec MP's holding the balance of power and that to me is worthy of a tip of hat.

Good point. That's why you are the best on this forum. You and I could break bread together, laugh, maybe shed a tear or two about life and the seriousness of our times for the kids.

My 85-year-olod mother once said she hoped we never experienced what she has gone through. She was a forced labourer for the Nazis. they took her and my father from different countries and villages to work in factories and mines. When she watched the news about what was going on in the world she would just sit there and shake her head.

She loves Canada with all her heart, and makes fun of me writng away and making political comments and going to gatherings. But then again someone has to in the family.

Best wishes CosmoStein.
