Veteran journalist quits CTV

OTTAWA - CTV News and one of its most widely recognized journalists, Tom Clark, have parted ways, the network announced Tuesday.

Clark, a veteran who had spent nearly four decades with the network, had been widely considered one of the leading contenders to replace Lloyd Robertson as anchor of CTV¹s flagship nighttime news show, a program that regularly draws more than a million viewers.

But earlier this summer, the network tapped Lisa Laflamme to replace Robertson when he retires sometime in 2011.

Clark hasn't said what he plans to do next.

"CTV is extremely proud of its long association with Tom Clark, and wishes him well in his future endeavours," Robert Hurst, CTV News president, said in a statement.

Most recently, Clark had been based in Ottawa hosting an hour-long politics show, Power Play with Tom Clark, on CTV's all-news channel.

Before that, he'd served as CTV's Washington bureau chief, its China bureau chief and had hosted the news magazine show W5. He'd also been a fixture of CTV's federal election coverage since Pierre Trudeau beat Joe Clark in 1974.

Globe and Mail journalist Jane Taber was tapped to guest-host CTV's Power Play Tuesday evening.

I don't think so. I can't see him as a good fit.
