( it doesn't mention it in the article but she is obvivously related to former MP Joe Comuzzi who defected from the liberals to conservatives a few years ago . )

Comuzzi-Stehmann acclaimed as Conservative’s Rainy River candidate

By tbnewswatch.com 91.5 CKPR

Maureen Comuzzi-Stehmann has nabbed the nomination for the federal Conservatives in the Thunder Bay – Rainy River riding.

Comuzzi-Stehmann announced she intended to run for the conservative nomination for that riding in late July. After no other candidates stepped forward the Conservative riding officials decided to forego a nomination meeting and give her the position by acclamation.

When an election is called, Comuzzi-Stehmann can expect to run against New Democrat MP John Rafferty and Liberal candidate Ken Boshcoff whenever a federal election is called.

In Thunder Bay-Superior North, Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey is expected to square off against former Lakehead student union president Richard Longtin for the Conservative nomination in that riding.

That nomination meeting is scheduled for Aug. 31.

Comuzzi-Stehmann intends to run for Tories

The name of a potential new federal conservative nominee for Thunder Bay – Rainy River might sound familiar to most residents living in Northwest Ontario.

Maureen Comuzzi-Stehmann, niece of long-time MP Joe Comuzzi, announced Friday that she intends to seek the Conservative nomination for the Thunder Bay riding that borders the riding her uncle held for two decades.

"Our family has been part of the fabric of the Thunder Bay region for generations," she said in a news release issued Friday. "My grandfather founded Lakehead Motors. My father, George, and now my brother Michael have continued the tradition of our family run business."

She applauded her uncle’s efforts as a long time area MP, adding that she believes the riding is in need of party-politics free representation.

Comuzzi-Stehmann still needs to file her nomination papers and obtain 50 signatures from members of the Conservative’s Thunder Bay Rainy River riding association.

"I am expecting a nomination near the end of August," she said.

This riding is normally a horse race between the Liberals and New Democrats.
It should be interesting to see what she will bring to the dynamic of the race.

It's even worse than that. Back in the 1950ies, the seat was held by Joe Comuzzi's father, who I think was also named Joe Comuzzi. Comuzzis have held that seat, on and off, since the 1950ies. How about that?
