Porn is backing the HD DVD format. Blu -ray, apparently, does not want porn.

To recap: Porn is the killer app of the Internet. Porn drove early adoption of DVD. Porn may have been responsible for VHS beating Beta. I think the writing is one the wall here.

Lol ... Isn't the PS3 backing the HD-DVD format as well?

Pretty sad state of affairs when you think about it.

ah well, the new standard will only be around for a little while before there's a new one anyway.

Sony is Blu-ray, the xbox has an optional HD DVD player. So the PS3 would have a blu-ray player. Not that anyone actually plans on buying a ps3, as far as I can tell. From what I hear around my programming shop, Wii kicks ass.

PS3 will sell a lot, just because of brand loyalty to Sony that managed to sell a lot of PSP's. However, the PS3 alone will not carry Blue-Ray, just like the PSP couldn't carry UMD movies.

Wii does kick some serious butt though. I definitely want one, even though Red Steel turned out to be a bugged out poor game. I'm just excited about playing baseball on it!

I figure, to get the best swing, you should tie a string to end of the wrist strap and then swing that around. Think of the increase in velocity and the home run potential! Incidentally, that is why I think there has been a recall on the wrist straps. If you can get a good hit by swinging with the controller in your hand, you could get an even better one with a little extra leverage...

Lol, I didn't even think of doing something like that! Knowing my luck, I'd probably break my tv or something, like the stuff you see at wiihaveaproblem.com. I'm looking forward to purchasing one, whenever they decide to release the console again.

Kind of like the DVD +r and DVD -r wars. Every DVD player you buy today can play and write to both. I think the same will happen with this. This isn't the same as past format wars where the media was physically incompatible. I believe they already sell high end DVD players that can play both. Dual players will be mainstream and both will fight it out for some time.

The first plans I have heard for a dual format player are from LG, scheduled for sometime this year. I have also heard rumors of a dual format disc, blu ray on one side, flip for hd dvd.

I honestly don't know at this point if either of the formats will really matter in the end. The content people are looking to cash in ala tape to cd, or vhs to dvd. I don't sense the will to part with money is at the same level today as it was with those conversions. Right now, both formats are seeming more like laser disc or that digital audio tape format than anything else.

The last two titles released in North America were Paramount's Sleepy Hollow and Bringing Out the Dead in 2000.
