Sorry for going off the deep end folks. But that kind of accusation against a fellow conservative is the worst of the worst.
Funny you call him a Conservative since you have the audacity to call pretty much anyone you disagree with a leftist. (Not to mention, you've had some not-so-conservative positions in the past. If my memory serves me correctly weren't you a proponent of a carbon tax? You probably shouldn't use that leftist word so liberally.)
In any case, while I do have what to say on the matter, I'll wait until I'm back in Canada in a couple weeks so that I can do some research.

You are right. He is a liberal :P
At the risk of hijacking this thread, I would be in favor of an energy tax not a carbon tax (subtle but important difference) to replace an income tax. I don't think that is the domain of liberals as conservatives traditionally would favor "pay per use" taxes.
...the internal political situation in the Islamic world..
Would you agree then that Islam is and should be treated as a political ideology and not granted the respect and treatment that Western Civilization grants a religion?
He won't be agreeing or disagreeing with anything on these boards for at least one week (or longer if he decides not to come back).
That's a shame. I think you take his sarcasm too seriously.

But your point is a great one. Most true Muslims would be the first to admit that their religion is not bound to one's spiritual life but every single aspect of their lives. It is why there are so few true democracies in the Islamic world.
I don't get the tie in between Islam and a lack of democracies. Sure the Al Queda types are opposed to democracy, but how many Islamist governments are there out there ? You have monarchies, military dictatorships, corrupt dictators, communist-socialists, etc, but very few theocracies. (Iran and ......) These non-democratic governments are being propped up by the US (although I give Bush some credit for trying to promote democracy.
There are also very few democratic countries in Africa as well ...and most of them are not Muslim countries
Add to that that the fact that the Americans have really discourage democracies in the region for years. Bush was the first person to push democracy in the region while democracy in Latin America has been on the agenda for decades.

Why? Did he get a temp ban?
Actually a permanent one. I hadn't seen this until now...

I don't know too many forum administrators who would tolerate this and being told they are in favor of a holocaust for Muslims.
I too know many Muslims. I am a top level squash player in Canada and squash is extremely popular in Islamic nations. Consequently I play with many Muslims and like them very much. I have real problems with Islam. There is a MASSIVE gap between not liking Islam and wanting all Muslims to be killed. He is a real jackass and will never post on these forums again.

Sarcasm? Really. Being called a "bigoted fuck" is hardly what I would classify as sarcasm. Anyway. I don't need to justify my decision. He can pollute Free Dominion with that trash.

Like you, I didn't see "bigoted fuck" right away. You have a point, but I still think the net IQ of the board goes down with him leaving :{

If you read farther down the page you quoted, you will see that most of the countries are not Muslim. They hold a lead in overall population, but are far behind in countries.
I think his absurd accusations and slander of Craig are significant!
Such a posting shows that he has no position - he knows that he is blurring the lines in these discussions. Whenever anyone posts material critical of Islam - he spins it as an attack on Muslims. That is pathetic.
He claims that there is a stereotypical 'generalization' being advanced - yet - he is methodically presenting an overly 'simplistic' interpretation of these issues. In so doing the issues are watered out and people get misinformation.
Libertas and i had an interesting discussion starting on this page:
So how many Muslim majority countries are democratic? Not too many by my count buth ere are a few. Albania. Bosnia. Iraq. Turkey. Including Afghanistan as democratic might be pushing it. Even the first four have issues. Bengladesh might qualify at times as might Pakistan. The 'Stans' are for the most part dictaorships of varying degrees of savagery. Azerbaidzhan is currently not democratic. Chechnya was chaotically democratic during its brief period of freedom.
Forgot Kosova. Some Serbs and others might contest calling it a democracy.

It is true. People who throw out claims of bigotry and racism are often incapable of mature or intelligent debate. My new site is full of media items that are highly critical of Islam. Yet one of the members, an Iraqi Sunni Muslim applauded most of the comments agreeing that primarily Shia Muslims were to be feared for the very reasons I, and others stated. Here is an excerpt from his post...

Thank you Craig. I am Sunni Muslim but not very much so.
You and your friends are right to fear Shia Muslims. Iraq was a peaceful nation until the Shia Muslims come and try and change it. They could not stand that Iraq was a Sunni Muslim home that did not follow Shariah law and when Saddam tried to defend it from them they convinced the Jews and Americans that we were the bad people. Now you see the truth. It is Shia Muslims who try to take over all nations and make them follow Shariah law. That is why I am in Canada. One night after the war the Shia Muslims came to my home. They tell me my sister must wear a burka, not go to school and follow their ways. When I tell them no, they beat me and said they would rape my sister when they returned. So we fled to Jordan and were lucky to have an uncle who brought us to Canada. Now we have no homeland and soon you will not too because if you fight back the Shia Muslims will convince the world you are the bad people.

She starts off by talking about how great it is to see a variety of viewpoints on campus. She concludes by saying affirming hezbollah's views of a genocide against the Jewish faith. Indeed, Muslims do like to come off as "nice people" but inevitably the radicals show their true colours. Next time someone tries to tell you that radical Muslims only exist in far off places like Saudi Arabia and aren't a threat to Western societies, show them this video.
