Since Don Plett has been appointed to the Senate, the CPC National Council has a vacancy to be filled.

Does anyone know how one applies for the position, what qualifications are required, when elections will be held, etc..... ?

As far as I know, you have to be on the National Council and are then selected by other Councilors. I could be wrong. There is an acting president right now, Kara Johnson. She's a very nice woman. I'm not sure when a new president will be selected.

Not being from Ontario, I'm not familiar with her. I've heard that both Alberta Councillors will be pursuing the top position...

The election is this Saturday at 2pm.

The electorate consists of 21 people including Stephen Harper IIRC

I also heard that....

I also heard that three other candidates were running for the position....

And I heard that someone named John Walsh was chosen - any truth to that? And if so, how does that affect CPC members?

Haven't heard who was chosen officially - there were 2 candidates from AB, 1 from SK, 1 from ON (Mr Walsh), and 1 from NB, AFAIK ... that looks like a pretty good set-up for splitting in Mr.Walsh's favor regardless of other factors. I'm told Sam Magnus from Saskatchewan was Don Plett's preference.

Thanks, Stephen! Will you have an interview / background up on him soon? My subpar google sleuthing has not been productive.

I don't think it's up on Google yet...

I heard by word-of-mouth.

Don't know much about the guy though...

He was described to me as an "old Reformer" - in my circle, that is a compliment...
