PostPosted: Fri Oct 09, 2009 8:35 am    Post subject: NOBEL PEACE PRZE - What a farce... or is it? Reply with quote

This morning I heard the Chairman of the Nobel Committee on the radio on the John Oakley program announce that Obama was selected for the Peace Prize. Because, BO stands up against nuclear proliferation and speaks about world peace.

In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses."

I guess the Commander-In-Chief won't send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan until he receives the medal, diploma, and $1.5 million cheque and cashes it.

Was this a make-up for Chicago's & Oprah's last place for the Olympics. Oprah, of course, will have the exclusive with Obama so he can show his medal.

Was this preplanned? Evidently, the Norwegian committee chose names in November 2008 and voted in February. So every one knows that Obama has done little or nothing. They probably liked what he preached during the election and what he might do for a peaceful world.

Some might consider this a brilliant move. Now what will the President do about the Middle East wars and Israel?

As I already pointed out in another thread: Al Gore and Yasser Arafat both won a Nobel prize for peace. What else to say?

Harper has done more for peace than Obama by promising to pull out from Afghanistan in 2011. Why didn't he win?

This is not what it seems. Awarding the nobel prize is not an attempt at Obama worship by the left. This is their way of making sure that he stays in his place as Humbler in Chief of America. How can a Nobel Peace prize winner declare war on another country or escalate the war in afghanistan?

The CBC and the Globe and Mail will be all excited about it for the next 3 months.

I wonder if he'd turn it down and maybe ask them to award it posthumously to Mahatma Gandhi who has never won a Nobel Peace Prize.

Um, don't you remember when a bunch of peace activists tried to do that after September 11? They said if Bush can get Osama peacefully he should deserve the nobel peace prize. Heres the link. http://www.expressindia.com/ne.....ewsid=2758

potan... you are quite right about the prize as a prevention of escalating the war in Afghanistan.

Rush Limbaugh said the Nobel Committee has neutered Obama with the peace prize. In the sense, that he will have to reconsider deploying more troops to Afghanistan. Maybe that's why BO said he would talk with the Taliban.

The Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, all Muslim Brotherhood warlords and despots would welcome the talks since they wish to expand their empires and spread Islam.

I wondered who else got paid off, and from whom?

You could make a good argument for either Gore Or Arafat (depending on your definition).
If you look at Arafat, well, he did sign an historic peace deal. Sure he was a murderous asshole, but there is precedence for awarding murderous assholes who stop wars peace prizes (a member of the communist government of Vietnam one jointly with Kissinger for ending the Vietnam war).

With Gore, well, the mainstream view is that Global Warming is a serious ill, and he has done a great deal to raise awarness. If you believe in Global Warming, its a reasonable pick.

Both of these men DID something. I may not agree with the picks, but I can understan d the logic. Obama hasn't done anything. His major foreign policy accomplishment has been to get Pakistan to strike back at Islamists - but thats not something the Peace Prize was meant for.

How about... the committee members have been paid off. Always follow the money, even if they are from socialist, communist, minority governments or despotic nations... or rich individuals such as George Soros.

The Norwegians chose Obama in November 2008 and voted in February 2009... what has Obama done but promise?

There's always something more, deeper, that even the mainstream media, people like Woodward, do not know or can't get their hands on. I might even read Dan Brown's book on the Freemasons or something on the Illuminati.

Of course, I jest... somewhat.

Nominations for the Nobel Prize have to be in by February. Right, so that means that, Obama was sworn in as POTUS on January 20th, was nominated within TWO WEEKS of assuming office!

Aagot Valle, a lawmaker for the Socialist Left party who joined the Nobel committee this year, said she hoped the selection would be viewed as "support and a commitment for Obama."
"And I hope it will be an inspiration for all those that work with nuclear disarmament and disarmament," she told AP in a rare interview. Members of the committee usually speak only through its chairman.
The award appeared to be at least partly a slap at Bush from a committee that harshly criticized Obama's predecessor for his largely unilateral military action in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
"Those who were in support of Bush in his belief in war solving problems, on rearmament, and that nuclear weapons play an important role ... probably won't be happy," said Valle

Indeed - specifically, there were 12 days between Obama's inauguration and the closing of nominations. There is growing speculation from observers that this was an attempt to influence Obama's future foreign policy decisions:

David Warren wrote:
...Instead, I think the intention of the prize, for which nominations closed on Feb. 1 -- less than a fortnight after Obama took office -- is in fact designed as an essay in pre-emption. The left-wing, pacifist committee wanted to saddle the new U.S. president with their little "hope diamond," in case he got any ideas about killing more jihadis in Afghanistan. Or hesitated to do to Israel what Neville Chamberlain did to Czechoslovakia.
