This team has sucked, like a frat boy on a beer keg, for more years than I have been alive. I have various theories.

Firstly, they never develop talent within their own system. In a desperate and misguided attempt to win this year, next year be damned, they always trade away young talent for aging veterans.

What does everyone else think?

Well harold Ballard has been a big part of the problem, but he's burning in hell now so he ain't a problem anymore.

As for not being able to develop their own talent, that was the biggest knock I had against Pat Quinn. He was a veteran's coach, & never that good at bringing along young talent unless necessary, as we saw last year with Steen & Wellwood. Maurice is much better in this area.

Wellwood is developing now isn't he? 2 games into the season and he is doing quite well already. The thing is, how long can Toronto resist the temptation to trade him away for some 35 year old center who already has a championship? They already traded that goalie kid, who was widely regarded as being a great talent.

We still got Pogge, he's better than Rask. Besides, Raycroft is still young & isn't doing so badly. Shut out the Sens the other nite.

Pogge Better then Rask?
Not a CHANCE.

I simply hate this Bias that Canadians have about goaltenders who play for team Canada at the WJC, Pogge played behind the best defense corp we had ever sent to the tourny, and STILL did not win goaltender of the Tournament (An Honor that Rask enjoyed).

Hirsh, Kidd, Fountain, Finnley, Oulett, LeClair, all guys who wore the maple leaf and either spent their lives as back-ups or are still waiting for a chance.

Rask's game is styled to the new NHL, he is fast, tall and lanky.

Pogge had a great tourny, but there is a reason he was drafted in the 5th round.
Last year was a career year for the kid, but look at his other seasons with Calgary and Prince George, he is good but not great.

Where as Rask has been stellar season in season out,

In a few years that deal is going to look like the deal that sent Hasek from Chicago to Buffalo for Stephane Beauregard. The Leafs should have let the two kids battle it out rather then annointing Pogge the goaltender of the future.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are nothing more then a wast of useless Garbage, a Has-been team that Leafs fans hold onto former Glory. To me they are a disgrace to the NHL and nothing more.
