Are we talking about theistic evolution [ref. Francis Collins] or intelligent design [ref. Jerry Falwell]. You can still believe in evolution and be a religious individual, that is unless you honestly believe the Bible is infallible.
The sooner people recognize the Bible wasn't meant to be a science textbook the better off we'll be.

This is a good point. A few months back, I posted an article that laid out several different categories of creationist / ID proponent. There's quite a bit of difference in schools of belief.
The overall debate is a bit silly, IMO. I think the more polarized factions need to take a few deep breaths - ID proponents should focus on their own kids and exercise their right to private or home schooling, and secularists need to acknowledge a deep understanding or acceptance of evolutionary theory is really only important to people involved in the biological sciences. There's no need for all the rage.
