I'm sick and tired of people pointing to the economic troubles as evidence that capitalism doesn't work.
Let's put things into context. In the American capitalist system (which is hardly pure capitalism) they experience a serious economic downturn every 80 years - and by "serious" I mean a couple years of -3 to -5% growth. In the 80 years between downturns they experience average annual growth of 3%. Therefore, over the course of 80 years in a reasonably capitalist society you can expect to average growth of about 2.9%. Now let's look at Cuba and North Korea. Which system doesn't work???
Indeed! And to combat the 'failures of capitalism' in North America, what do they advocate? Moving to more socialized systems like the European nations, which are suffering far worse, and have been long before the recession started here...

Capitalism only fails when socialism is introduced like a piece meal where people like program A then they want more & ask for program B. The trend continues to program C, & so on, therefore it is the human need to be taken care off that is the ultimate failure. So to blame capitalism for the failure is way off base, for it is not capitalism that has collapsed but the very programs that introduced through socialism that has undermined the system causing economic strain. And when the elites are socialists to create an oligarchy they will use capitalism to acheive this goal.
