W fired Rumsfeld just hours after ballots were counted nationwide.

The Iraq study group is being touted by the media as "Bush's last chance to save face in Iraq"

Armed Service Committee Chair Levin (D) favours gradual troop withdrawl while others (including Sen McCain) advocate for more troops to finish the job.

Where is Bush likely to work with Dems on Iraq and where is he likely to hold his line?

Any pullout by the U.S. from Iraq, before the situation is stabilized with a democratic government firmly in control there, will not end well and will be a defeat for the U.S. and the West. The Islamofascists will only be emboldened and guess where they will turn their attention to, Afghanistan! If Canadians found the last few months there "uncomfortable", just wait....

Governing is different from opposing. Once they see the facts, there are probably enough rational Dems to realize that a withdrawl now is disastrous for world stability for the forseeable future. Bush made a mistake toppling Iraq, hindsight shows it should have been Iran. Now though, the US has a responsibility, under the rules of war, to stabilize the country.

Puling out now would not just make Bush look bad, but all of the US, and they would look bad for a long time. Taiwan would do better to capitulate now rather than depend on the US. South Korea too. Japan would have to go nuclear to keep the wolf from their door. Sending the message, loud and clear, that America can be chased off by killing a few soldiers is absolutely the wrong message to send.
