notice how neither of the 2 main ideas on this thread are being thought of in Ottawa. And while both are better than the carbon tax or cap and trade system.

Another option I've seen bandied about is requiring / allowing companies to buy the land and the resources, rather than rent them. The basic argument is that making the land a company asset naturally leads to them investing in it's upkeep and continued productivity, much like farmers already do.
