In addition to the plausibility factor, it's often the only narrative mentioned in high schools or media treatments. The simple yet true explanation that the Avro program was brilliantly engineered, but killed by market forces, is rarely heard. |

The only ones I can think of are the attempt to kill John Paul 2 which was finally proven to have been a plot of the Soviet Union and the Tobacco companies knowing that smoking caused cancer.
In 1978 the House select committee on Assasinations concluded that Oswald was conspiring with someone else((hidden on the grassy knoll) but that his bullets were the ones that did all the damage(magic bullet ad naseum). This isn't a huge conspiracy people have been advocating and no one has proven who else was involved(although Woody's dad is a prime candidate)
Any others? |
Neither the Kennedy thing or the Soviet plan to assissinate J2P2 have been proven true.
Each stands as rather doublfull, but not out the question. I gave the Pope thing the benefit of the doubt at the time, but, what has (and hasn't) come out since them leads me to believe it is bogus.
A conspiracy involving more than a handful of people in bound to fail at some point. |

I think the "official" explanation for the Kennedy assassination has been debunked. You don't think that Oswald and Ruby acted alone, do you? |

If I had to place a bet, I would say yes.
First of all, if I were some big dark force planing to kill the Kennedy, I would not employ someone like Oswald. This guy is, for lack of a better term, a loser. The chances of him pulling it off are probably less than the chances of him somehow spilling the beans.
My main objection to this, however, is time. You would need a fair number of people to be part of this conspiracy and none of them have yet talked. Members of the conspiracy would have died from cancer, found god, got pissed of at other members, wanted a book deal, etc. I believe any conspiracy of a given size will break down over time.
I know there is evidence to the contrary out there, but none of it is really unequivical. |

I can think of a few conspiracy theories that have proven true
The Vatican brokering a deal to get Exocet missles to Argentina during the Faulkland Islands war.
The CIA helping to overthrow Chile's government.
The Canadian engineer, John Bull, being assasinated by the Mossad.
France giving NATO secrets to the Russians during the cold war.
France selling submarine technology to China 3 years ago.
France selling weapons grade plutonium to Japan.
Power Corp involved in money laundering with Sadam Hussein in the oil for food scam |

What do you think Ruby's motive was for killing Oswald? |

A crack shot. A former defector to Russia. Involved with the Fair Play for Cuba People in New Orleans. A past involvement with the CIA. Sure he was a loser but he was an expendable loser. He was either a manchurian candidate or a patsy. |

Why I don't buy this is that his history of mental illness goes back a lot farther back. He was describted as "schiziod" at age 14 and had a long history of mental problems. You don't invest all this effort into a manchurian candidate who will probably end up screwing up and spilling the beans in jail. As for being a crack shot, for some really ironic reason, shooting a gun is the only thing crazy people do well.

No clue. Then again, what was John Hinkleys true motive. Or the guy that shot John Lenonon, the lady who shot Selena . The guy who shot Robert Kennedy. ?
I agree there are puzzles here, but their are a lot more puzzles in the conspiracy theories. |

I'm not saying that I believe in any particular conspiracy theory, but the notion that Oswald and Ruby both acted alone is ridiculous. Even the HSCA agrees with me on that. |

...yes - the Liberals and the socialist NDP and - propped up by separatists - conspired to seize control of Parliament - a scant six weeks after a miserable loss in a general election. There were theories that these parties were conspiring - then later - the theories proved true.
Conspiracy is a routine for certain ideologues... |
