Predictions?

Will the GOP retain the House and/or Senate?

Will Dems make W a lame duck president?

What are the implications of either scenario for Canada?

I did my prediction on a different thread, but will repeat: Dems will take the House and the State Houses. The Senate is still up in the air.

House: Dems 236 Reps 199
Senate: Dems 51 Reps 49 (Dems incl 2 socialist Sanders and Joementum)
Governors: Dems 29 Reps 21

US Presidents enter lame-duck status in their 2nd term. After the mid-terms, their quacks get louder. Bush will be no different, and he will have an added problem because his VP is also a lame duck having decided not to seek the nomination.

Implications for Canada - more protectionary pressures from the Congress could affect the softwood file, and more media Bush bashing will not be helpful for Team Harper.

A little overly optimistic for the Dems

My picks: House: Democrats 223 GOP 212

Senate: GOP 52 Dems 46 Ind 2 (Lieberman & Sanders from VT)

Call me crazy, but this is how I figure it will break down:

House: Dems 215 Reps 220
Senate: Dems 48 Reps 50 Ind 2
Governors: Dems 27 Reps 23

Through no spectacular effort on the GOPs part, I think they'll hang on by the skin of their teeth. Too many screwups by the Dems, I think. (And yeah, I stole cbasu's formatting :P ) This probably too optimistic for some.
