Scientists have long warned that the number of seals killed during Canada's annual hunt threatens the seal populations. But in recent years, it has become clear that these marine mammals now face an added threat to their survival—global warming. Harp and hooded seals rely on the presence of sea ice, on which they give birth to and nurse their pups. But over the past decade, global warming has caused a steady decline in the sea ice cover off Canada's east coast—the very habitat of the harp and hooded seals.

| There's still plenty of ice left. Can't call the Arctic a crowded place. |

The population of seals is burgeoning and has been since the 80s, so much so that folks contribute some of the loss of the cod fishery to them. Instead of trying to save more of these eating machines, how about importing some polar bears and culling the population? Either that or tell the weeping celebrities to pound sand and give the seal hunters a couple years of extended harvesting!!
Last year, the howling eco-freaks proclaimed the Arctic icecap was vanishing at an unprecedented rate (which is technically true since people only started tracking icecap trends in recent years so precedents are fairly rare) but isn't it funny how they didn't keep screaming when the extra-cold winter replaced more ice than the previous year's freeze-up.

For future reference, the proper thing to do next time you see something like this, is do not reply. If possible, do not even look; nothing gets under a trolls skin more than seeing that read count stay at zero. You should have been able to tell from the subject line that there was nothing worthy of discussion.
Trolls are always going to be trying to get an angry response from you. It is so easy to be smarter than them, all it takes is a little effort. |
