A tip of the hat to Lotusland Soapbox and an interesting article from the UK.

Don't listen to the liberals - Right-wingers really are nicer people, latest research shows

George Orwell once wrote that politics was closely related to social identity. 'One sometimes gets the impression,' he wrote in The Road To Wigan Pier, 'that the mere words socialism and communism draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, nature-cure quack, pacifist and feminist in England'.
Orwell was making an observation. But today a whole body of academic research shows he was correct: your politics influence the manner in which you live your life. And the news is not so good for those on the political Left.
There is plenty of data that shows that Right-wingers are happier, more generous to charities, less likely to commit suicide - and even hug their children more than those on the Left.

| Thanks for posting that! A real breath of fresh air after umpteen studies from Academia about how much more open-minded Lefties are. My own observation has been that liberals espouse a philosophy that seems caring, while not being particularily so themselves; conservatives seem to do the opposite. It seems a contradiction, but it makes sense when you consider the respective views on role of government. |

| The charitable organization that I worked for, moved its headquarters from Ontario to Texas for the sole reason that their biggest and most frequent donors were in Texas which is considered the conservative heartland. Of course, tax exemptions and other things probably factored in that decision too. |

Lefty pinko's expect the government to look after the poor and less fortunate.
I guess they also expect the government to look after the Lefty Pinkos too. :x
Rightwingers don't expect the government to look after people(control people) as much as socialists, wacko, communists, lefty, pinko, tree hugging, back pack wearing politiian loving, non driving, enviro-terroist, separatist, keynesian, obamanation, head up the pooper, green house gas experts do. |

Mr. Socko,
I think that you could add a few more things like Liberal voting, pot smoking, free loving, tree planting hippies.

I tried posting a response to that article on the website (as per the challenge offered by Peter Schweizer to donate 100 pounds to charity) but for some reason it didn't get posted (and this was only a day or two after the article was posted). I tried e-mailing the editor to try to forward it on, but a month and a half later and still no response...and I don't have Schweizer's e-mail address.
Oh well. I guess the DailyMail wasn't really interested in hearing the responses... |

Yeah but were you guys not mean towards a recent member on this forum?
I found it interesting to read in that article that socialists are more greedy about money then capitalists, to quote money is the route of all evil. And it seems that greed is more prevalent among socialists which shows why the MSM is against conservatism because unlike the left we actually believe in a fair economic system that allows for both failure & success. Socialism only allows for failure unless your an elitist, so if Canadians were against elitism then they should have voted for a Conservative majority. |

I definitely think that there's some truth to this, but I don't think it's a "left/right" divide so much as its a "liberal activist/everybody else" divide. Moderate liberals are usually fine, when it comes to being reasonably happy and nice.
The activist liberal is never happy, and seemingly never wants others to be content. There is always some cause - some grievance - some concern - that engulfs the activist liberal, that leaves him or her indignant, and drives him or her to want the rest of society to join him or her in that cause, concern, or grievance. And if society doesn't go along with the activist liberal... the activist liberal gets very ugly, then. |
